Twitter, and Various Others ^ | 4-26-09 | FReepers

Posted on 04/26/2009 8:41:48 AM PDT by BagCamAddict

Please keep chat and one-liners to a minimum. This thread is intended to be a one-stop-shop for all of todays NEWS and info related to the Mexican Swine Flu.

To make it faster for everyone to catch up on the actual NEWS, PLEASE PLEASE minimize chat, jokes, bashing the administration, soapboxes, and so forth. These live threads can become useless monster threads if everyone throws in their one-liners, and we all have 'em! So let's try to keep this thread useful for the latest NEWS.

Thank you all in advance.

It really doesn’t seem to be deadly anywhere when you factor in the total number of likely infections.

Tamiflu Resistant H1N1 Vaccine Failures Raise Concerns
From: Recombinomics Commentary
16:53 March 24, 2009
Excerpt: "Reports from Taiwan also indicated that vaccines failed in 70% of the H1N1 cases and Tamiflu resistant H1N1 dominated in collections after December, 2008.

Although vaccine failures in H1N1 have not been discussed in weekly reports from the CDC, a disclaimer was added in 2009, noting that cross reactivity with ferret reference sera was not always predictive of vaccine protection. This disclaimer came after failures had been reported in Asia."

I continue to believe this is pure distraction by the media/and or WH

I agree this is media distraction, perhaps because of the increasing violence in Iraq, or the Taliban advancing within grasp of Pakistan nukes. Neither of these are newsworthy items. ahem.

Tamiflu resistance to H1N1 started in earnest during the 2007-2008 flu season, long before the current hysteria.

"During the 2007–2008 influenza season, oseltamivir [Tamiflu]
resistance among influenza A(H1N1) viruses increased significantly
for the first time worldwide," write Nila J. Dharan, MD, from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta,
Georgia, and colleagues. "Early surveillance data suggest that the
prevalence of oseltamivir resistance among A(H1N1) viruses will
most likely be higher during the 2008–2009 season.

During the 2008 to 2009 influenza season, preliminary data showed
resistance to oseltamivir among 264 of 268 influenza A(H1N1)
viruses (98.5%) tested. "--3/2/2009 Medscape Medical News

Here’s a rather good article (and yes it’s from Huffington):

I agree, the combination of swine, avian, and human segments of the flu look suspicious. Drug cartel hitting back????

In Mexico, 16 Mexican states are reporting cases. Two dozen new suspected cases were reported in Mexico City on Saturday. President Calderon has closed all churches/schools/zoos/public venues in Mexico. Soccer games were held with no audiences allowed. Troops are patrolling Mexico City handing out masks, enforcing no public gathering rules. Catholic church will broadcast sermons since noone is allowed to attend church.

New Zealand is reporting 10 suspected cases, all students who traveled to Mexico. Israel reporting one case and France reportedly investigating 4 cases there.

Eleven cases of swine flu were confirmed in California, Texas and Kansas; seven are in Southern California. Sacramento Bee reports that of the three California cases in Imperial Valley and four cases in San Diego, none involved people who had traveled to Mexico.

Tamiflu and Relenza is reputedly effective against this current strain at this time however it’s too late to deploy tamiflu to Mexico City due to the large number of cases already reported in that city. The flu apparently is more fatal for those in the 20-40 age group (as was seen with Spanish Flu epidemic).

(Info above summarized from Sacramento Bee and Fox News sites)

Best Regards, blu

I never did figure out yesterday if the thread you posted was written by you- or simply posted. My question- if you wrote it- have you heard anymore from the Taiwanese doc and if so- what is his thinking today?

"LONDON (Reuters) - Tests on a British Airways cabin crew member taken to a London hospital suffering flu-like symptoms have shown he does not have swine flu which has killed up to 81 in Mexico, the hospital said on Sunday.

The man was taken to Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow, northwest London, on Saturday afternoon as a precautionary measure after his flight from Mexico City touched down at Heathrow.".........

...you had better keep an eye on the real disease which is Washington,Disease, and it's crooks, because they are trying to scare you witless so you don't see what is happenig in Washington

Very possible! It's hardly coincidence that we have had one aspirin bombing after another since zero got permission from congress to destroy the economy by printing more money than our kids' chldren can ever pay back.

To fully implement this take over of Free Market Capitalism he needs a diversion a week which he has gotten. Whether it be pirates, flu,100 day celebration of whatever,it's always there courtesy of the DBM.

We need to keep our eye on the ball and not get diverted IMHO.

Napolitano saying they’re making this a national health emergency so they can free up agencies to do this and that...get “resources” (as in ca$h)to the “affected” areas.

I can barely tolerate listening to this woman. It’s a visceral reaction.

What I am reading, between the lines, is that they are predicting it will become more virulent here in the US.

You should have learned that washing hands is important. Janet said it at least three times.
