.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

I love thee, I love but thee
With a love that shall not die

Grief will not last, joy will return,
For through our tears we clearly see
That while we part but for a time,
With Christ we'll spend eternity. -D. De Haan

Through prayer, finite man draws upon the power of the infinite God.

Good Morning, Mayor!
That cup of coffee is a most welcomed sight this morning. Either FR is awfully slow or my pc is. It may take me until noon to get any poems posted.
That first cup calmed me a little, but I may need a second.
I found something under the cup this morning. Would you like to share it?

There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots
may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on
the feelings, as now in October.

FIVE LITTLE PUMPKINS

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one says, "Oh my, it's getting late."
The second one says, "There are witches in the air."
The third one says, "But we don't care!"
The fourth one says, "Let's run and run and run."
The fifth one says, "For some Halloween fun!"
OOOooo goes the wind and out goes the lights.
And five little pumpkins roll out of sight!"

Autumn Came to the Ohio Valley

Autumn came to the Ohio valley,
While hearts dropped like green buckeyes
In the panoply of orange and golden leaves.

Wheels sang on blue highways,
Birds chose to run or hide. Proud corn browned, row by row,
Ears cocked for the combine surely coming.

Surely this western migration also has meaning,
Like the ancient north south routes surely do.
Or perhaps all the routes are beats to the rhythm,
Of the moving hands of hours and minutes
Upon this clock of earth.

I am having the same problem, everything seems really slow this am.

Are you talking about the message when you put the cursor over the cup ?

I have been doing that everyday with a new message everyday, it is from Our Daily Bread..

Autumn...A Poem

Like the coat of paint
on an old pickup truck,
the fresh green of spring
has turned to autumn rust.

Towering over the tiny town
I look upon the model train
As it passes through the model town
Full of models made of cheap plastic
And old wood

The town is fragile and musn’t be touched
For with the pressure of one hand,
Any building I can crush and destroy
And I must be careful of the model trains
For I can with ease derail the trains and wreak
Havoc in the model town

As I tower over the tiny town
I wonder as I realize
That too God we are smaller
Than the citizens of the little town
On the table
Yet somehow he cares for our needs
As insignificant as they seem in the
Grand scheme of things
As he looks down from Heaven

Prairie Born Child

When people wander far from home,
From the land that gave them birth
Their homesick hearts turn often back
To their own wee bit of earth.

Mountain-folk yearn for peaks and crags,
While the sailor pines for the sea
But I was born on the level land,
And the prairie calls to me.

Majestic heights inspire with awe
And the sea has a lure of its own,
But the prairie never calls in vain,
To her child who wanders alone.

The sunlight floods the lofty range,
And the moonlight gleams on the deep;
But the stars themselves come down and sing,
The prairie-born child to sleep.

I love that sweet poem. Makes me homesick and it's so true.

"But the stars themselves come down and sing,
The prairie-born child to sleep".

I miss the stars.
