Police have fined a Wyoming Girl Scout $400 for ‘not having permission’ to sell cookies on her grandparent’s driveway.

A code enforcement officer asked Emma McCarroll, 13, and her mom if they had the landowner’s permission to sell from a driveway in the city’s Pine Avenue area.

The town went from 1000 in 1980 to 2000 in 2010 and the town council only dropped two of three charges. My guess is that the town is at best divided roughly evenly between western libertarians and people four generations out of NY by way of California. This may serve as an opportunity to toss the fascists off of council.

So the future lesbian / Planned Parenthood-loving kid got shut down. People who put their kids into Scouting are bad parents.

But the cops were out of line.

I think you’re on to something. It could be new series for the “Law and Order” TV franchise.
Law and Order: Cookie Patrol.

This is why people hate the police.

Dumb girl, should have asked her grandparent first.

If those Girl Scouts had been selling crack there would have been no problem.

You gotta stop this unlicensed distribution of carbohydrates! Next thing you know, people will have their own cookie labs in their kitchens.

This is small-town Wyoming. They obviously don’t have enough stuff to keep one cop busy, and rather than supporting the local donut shop he (or rather, I think she) is spending too much time fixing things that aren’t broken.

The population is such that breaking law-enforcement down into further specialization doesn’t make any sense—they likely “need” a code enforcement officer for about 1-2 hours worth of work a week max, or a cop can just chat with people in a friendly way and overlook technical things that harm absolutely no one.

Not every scouting troop is completely out to lunch.

A good parent gets to know the individuals involved and goes from there.

Merely going by an organization’s reputation, especially when the organization is large, is not the best thing, especially if it involves significant amounts of action in loco parentis.

How hard is it to get a permit? Walk into the office and walk out with one. This is our reddest state so clearly they had the citizens approval.

He was just following orders, you know. Where do we find such men?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

iirc, CA & WA are in the process of allowing illegal migrants to become LEO

+ there are proposals in congress to allow illegal migrants US citizenship if the join US MIL to help pad floundering recruiting quotas

Reminds me of the Mayberry episode where Barney gets a motorcycle and goes on a terror
About spit my teeth out when he was measuring the height of bumper and someone under the car grabs his yardstick

Then there was stopping trucker for speeding and trucker says you know we need to get speed up to make it up dead mans hill or something like that.

Here where I live if I want to replace an outlet technically I need to get a 25$ permit to do so, recon there are a lot of law breakers in my town based just on that. Btw a permit to get a new driveway or extension like I got is 50$

Outlet vs driveway lol

The article is total b.s.
It states she was fined for selling cookies.
It states she was fined for not having permission.
The fines were for neither:
“ a $100 fine for parking on the sidewalk, a $150 fine for unlawful obstruction and another $150 fine for a municipal code that said there needs to be at least five feet of unobstructed passage”
What has happened to journalism in this country?

> How hard is it to get a permit? <

I guess I’m showing my libertarian side here, but why should she need a permit in the first place? She was evidently on a family member’s property. It’s like with a farmer with a small vegetable stand on his property and near the side of the road. Leave such folks alone.

I do see the need for a food permit when a health inspection is necessary. With restaurant, for example. Or with some guy running a portable BBQ stand.

So where do you draw the line? It’s not always easy to tell. I get that.

Seems miscommunication on both sides reading the article and I’m sure there’s much more than what was written which is one sided

I got a parking ticket at my house last week. It was just a warning ticket. We’ve been in the house for fourteen years. It’s a very wide liytle used residential street. People park on the street in whatever direction they were driving, thus, like most nights I was parked with my drivers side tires near the curb

Just like many of my neighbors.

I assume the cop was an overzealous rookie.

The way that she was selling the cookies is the crux of the issue. Location, location, location

It turns out that her grandparents are located on main street, which actually is a four-lane thoroughfare

https://www.google.com/maps/place/515+Pine+St,+Pinedale,+WY+82941,+USA/@42.8673555,-109.86745,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x875796a637bf149f:0xe39779a7fab8c163!8m2!3d42.8673555!4d-109.86745?entry=ttu

Given the local, if the girl (who is too young to drive outside of the driveway) had positioned the truck so it was an actual hazard to traffic, she also could have been asked to move it.

The cop should have issued a warning, possibly knocking on the door of the house.

The council needs to be voted out and the cop chewed out.

I’m sure people have garage sales etc. in that neighborhood all the time and the traffic flow can handle it. I’m located in a slightly smaller town. The garage sale potential is one of the few upsides to living on the “main drag.”
