Those aren’t my words. Those are the words of the Washington Post, which just reported:
The D.C. Council on Tuesday voted to override Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s (D) veto of a major overhaul of the city’s criminal code, which city lawmakers had unanimously approved in November despite concerns from court and law enforcement leaders.
The bill would, among other things, eliminate most mandatory minimum sentences, allow for jury trials in almost all misdemeanor cases, and reduce the maximum penalties for offenses such as burglaries, carjackings and robberies.
Every city gets exactly as much crime as it’s willing to tolerate. And apparently, the voters of Washington D.C. are willing to tolerate a lot of it.
What about the penalties for protesting while Republican?
What’s ours is theirs.
This will not end well.....................
The black community always takes the hit for progressive policies because most career criminals (including those who happen to be black) are unimaginative and lazy jerks who prey on whomever happens to be nearby.
On the bright side, maybe this will increase the call to distribute the federal behemoth outside of DC and all over the land. There’s no need to have all that thoroughly corrupt power concentrated in one physical location.
This is a disaster in the making, and a replay of the “soft on crime” policies of the late 60’s and early 70’s. History always repeats itself.
What we old farts learned back then, though, was that fundamentally the police don’t exist to protect the regular citizen from crime, but to protect the common street criminal from the anger of the law abiding citizen.
Tick tock.
Did anyone ask them why they want more burglaries, carjackings and robberies”?
Taxes paid by law-abiding citizens and businesses that can’t leave should be reduced commensurately.....with or without .gov approval.
They have sown the dragon’s teeth let them enjoy the harvest.
All done for the drug cartels.
But they’ll tell you Trump jaywalked.
Stealing and thuggery are against innocent American citizens is no big deal to corrupt elites. But calling out their corruption is, and thus the feds will focus law enforcement on the second issue more and more.
I find this disgusting. Carjacking is a rotten, horrible crime that truly degrades the operation of society. Besides, any crime where a gun is brandished ALWAYS carries a risk that the gun might go off and kill or grievously wound someone.
This is one of the ways they get away with saying that crime is down.
I grew up inside the DC Beltway and then lived outside within walking distance of it. I hardly *ever* went into DC. It’s never actually been safe, but outright dangerous since the mid-60s.
Let them live in the shit hole they are creating for themselves. It is an appropriate fitting for DC.
“”What’s ours is theirs.””
Another way for government creepozoids to provide ‘reparations.’
San Fransicko is considering cash payments for ‘reparations.’
I suppose all of stores in San Fransicko like Walgreens/CVS/etc that closed due to ‘reparations’ was just not enough. Dozens of stores were robbed, over and over, as long as each ‘reparation’ trip did not go over $900. There was even one ‘reparation’ clerk who went behind the pharmacy counter and filled up a large garbage bag with medicines. After loading up shelf after shelf into the bag, he calmly walked out with absolutely no fear of consequences. Some ancestor, 500 or 1,000 years ago, was sold into slavery (probably sold by another ancestor, but let’s not go there), so today he is entitled to get his. Welcome to the democRAT Utopia.
and the revolving door of justice, was motorized...
Why stop there? Why not eliminate all penalties for crimes and see what happens?
