Against the 25th Amendment — and Warily against Impeachment
National Review ^ | 1/7/2021 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 01/07/2021 2:01:44 PM PST by Onthebrink

These are dark days in the history of the United States, and no one is feeling them more intensely than Mike Pence.

On Wednesday, the vice president admirably turned aside the president’s high-intensity demands that he shred the Constitution. Trump was pushing Pence to usurp the states’ power over the disposition of their electoral votes — in effect, to claim dictatorial power to reverse President-elect Biden’s victory. Pence’s fidelity to his constitutional oath so enraged Trump that the president publicly rebuked him even as an insurrectionist mob was descending on the Capitol. Press reports indicate that the rioters, upon overwhelming security forces and entering the building, set about searching for Pence — who, by then, had been whisked away while members of Congress were also being safeguarded.

“When people fear government, we have tyranny.....
When government fears the people, we have freedom”

That’s a beauty! I’m putting it into my well-said list.

Here’s something McCarthy wrote:

“The problem, however, is that Trump is an extraordinarily effective populist demagogue [or more accurately, patriot and leader]”

The miniature politicians around him have for 5 years been envious, jealous and angry over that, plus the fact that he can’t be bought.

Years ago, I used to eagerly look forward to reading National Review. William F. Buckley was still the publisher when my subscription started. The publication had influence once upon a time, but no longer.

I dropped the magazine years ago. It really stopped being worthwhile when John O’Sullivan was shown the door.

Rich Lowry and his crew are useless.

When integrity of elections is at stake the republic and the constitution are at stake.

No day in court, no serious investigation.

Republic is dead. That is a significant enough reason to me for what Trump did. ------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The head of a major U.S. business group that represents 14,000 companies including Exxon Mobil Corp, Pfizer Inc and Toyota Motor Corp urged senior U.S. officials to consider removing President Donald Trump from office after supporters of the outgoing president stormed the U.S. Capitol.

National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons said Trump “incited violence in an attempt to retain power, and any elected leader defending him is violating their oath to the Constitution and rejecting democracy in favor of anarchy.... Vice President (Mike) Pence, who was evacuated from the Capitol, should seriously consider working with the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to preserve democracy.”

See my tagline!:

You wrote: “Republic is dead.”

Earlier today I saw a morbid photo of creepy old Biden, he looks like a skeleton and I thought the following:

“Our Republic fought bravely, but is now on life support and Biden, the Grim Reaper, thinks he can spirit away our Republic from being the land of the living to being the land of the dead. Harris is Pesta, a witch or in this case one of the witches, who want to release plagues to destroy our nation.”

Guessing you will never hear Mike Pence’s name in politics past 20 January 2021.

This is far too optimistic. Consider all the Republican-majority state legislatures that took no action in the two months following the election. Consider all the Republicans in Congress who went beyond mere inaction and actively opposed any remedy; they were a significant minority in the House and an overwhelming majority in the Senate.

What do these facts tell us? That the Republican Party is still largely controlled by the faction that Pence has now joined.

I believe VP Pence was always a member. A VP Palin would not.

He has always been a Never Trumper but he hid it well. Now he doesn’t have to hide it.
I despise him.

A fair point. I should have said “the faction that Pence has now confirmed his membership in.”

There are others, such as Tom Cotton, as to whom “has now joined” may be correct.

Jay Timmons is on their side. He’s an infiltrator (infiltraitor).
