Who's the best action hero of all time, in your humble opinion?
I would choose Stallone for the reason you gave....he was not only an actor, but a writer and producer that developed legendary characters from nothing.
Stallone gave us more than just a performance....which is all Arnold provided.
I wanna nominate the guy who does their special effects.
I read somewhere that they nailed Keaton’s shoes to the ground so he couldn’t move to get the wall falling shot, so he couldn’t move. That, my FRiend, is dedication!
My kids, when they were little, LOVED Buster Keaton. Charlie Chaplin too. I didn’t think they would be interested in silent movies, but after reading about how great they were (on Free Republic) I thought they would be fun to rent from the library.
I think it was Audie Murphy, either directing or playing himself in WWII. He didn’t want to portray the actual events. He thought the audience would think it was all made up.
I don’t recall exactly, but something like “We can’t show me taking 150 prisoners like it happened, nobody would believe that. Lets make it 12.”
I’m casting a vote for Jackie Chan, too. Talk about “prolific”, how about 141 movies, according to IMDB, spanning 47 years. He’s produced 60 movies and directed 19. For most of his career he’s done his own stunts; often ending up in the hospital and shooting movies injured. He learned how to make action movies by being a bit player in Bruce Lee movies, and has worked with more big names than you can shake a stick at. He has done serious movies, as well as comic and was an international superstar years before most American action heroes made it big.
+1
Adam Ant. Always dug him.
Nic Cage has been in far more big films and shows than you are remembering

but seriously he was good in Mandy last year

John Wayne.
Rambo movies were pitifully stupid. Nobody can avoid being shredded by an 81mm mortar round just by hopping a bit.
You certainly are right there. Never forget, Stallone WROTE Rocky and the only reason he became a known actor was because he starved rather than sell the screenplay without being named to play Rocky.
Loved him in “The Blob”
Joking aside, Bullitt was superior...
Bruce Willis, or perhaps Harrison Ford, and maybe even Steven Seagal.

A few honorable mentions:
Liam Neeson (Taken)
Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)
Lots of Old Western Actors
Lee Marvin
Kirk Douglas
Gregory Peck
a litany of ‘em.
The American Soldier
Yeah that’s a rumor. Keaton was told where the mark was and he hit it. It was the same day that his wife filed for divorce and took his kids.
Nah.
The only person I’ve liked in the role other than Connery was Daniel Craig.
I didn’t realize he lived there. Glad he’s OK.
