I liked his role as Arthur Bishop in “The Mechanic”. True, he was an Outfit hitman, but he was taking out guys that were clearly bad to start with...and, at one point, I sensed that Bishop was forced into his “trade” and would gladly have dropped it if he could have.
I understand the producers of the movie later admitted they had goofed by having him (and then Jan-Michael Vincent’s character) killed off...they could have made it a series, with the two of them traveling the world offing dirty players (in ways that didn’t look like murder) and philosophizing along the way.
