What happened to increase the use of AR15 rifles in mass murder? Very likely it was the media coverage in the United States, where mass media create incentives for socially marginal individuals to achieve celebrity status by becoming a mass murderer. Since 2012, much media focus has been on the AR15, as many in the media want to see it banned.

I think you nailed it there. I would consider it to be a certainty that media hype is the primary vector.

Lots of oddities on that AR.

That underbarrel flashlight... I can’t figure that one out. It looks like a major brand, so I suppose it’s good and neat and stuff but I’ve never seen one, frankly. The red dot on it is likely a BSA at best but they did mount it on a riser which so many people don’t do.

I mean I see either garbage AR setups or good ones. It’s easy to make a nice AR garbage with the toys.

Had a friend who pieced together a really nice AR with high end light weight components (Phase 5, cerekoted upper and lower receiver, bad button, etc)... and then proceeded to put a 40 dollar scope with no riser on top. He was convinced he had it set up like he wanted until he tried mine with the aimpoint on the co-witness riser. It was like an "ah ha" moment.

I thought all Aimpoints co-witnessed ?

I run Colt iron sights on my Colt. When people ask why I tell them it’s because I don’t have $600-$1400 to drop on an optic.

I got the aimpoint through LaRue tactical and it came with a co-witness mount. But you understood the point before I posted. People will take a flat top AR and mount a scope almost flush with no riser, and then wonder why they have to scrunch down with their cheek bone pressed painfully on the butt stock to see through the optic. At least you and I know when we are going to spend hard earned cash, what to spend it on.

I’d recommend 7-1/2 birdshot for inside the house.

BUT not enough penetration. No 4 buckshot for inside the house. Last shot should be slug, next to last 00 buck.

Last 2 rounds are for car doors or body armor.

Would you stand in front of a 1-1/2 long column of lead shot weighing almost an ounce moving at 900 FPS? At 15-20 feet there’s more than enough penetration.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

But in my house if 5 rounds of that doesn’t do the trick the 13 rounds of 230 grain .45 caliber hollow points certainly will.
