Teacher pens FB post about Florida school shooting. It’s gone mega-viral for all the right reasons.

Kelly Guthrie Raley was named “Teacher of the Year” at her Florida school, Eustis Middle School, for the 2017-2018 school year last month, according to Fox News. But now she’s being recognized for her cultural commentary following the tragic Florida school shooting.

In a Facebook post that’s gone mega-viral, Ms. Raley analyzes American culture at-large and how it contributed to Wednesday’s shootings and other previous mass shootings.

What did she say? Raley did not hold anything back. She wrote:

Until we, as a country, are willing to get serious and talk about mental health issues, lack of available care for the mental health issues, lack of discipline in the home, horrendous lack of parental support when the schools are trying to control horrible behavior at school (oh no! Not MY KID. What did YOU do to cause my kid to react that way?), lack of moral values, and yes, I’ll say it-violent video games that take away all sensitivity to ANY compassion for others’ lives, as well as reality TV that makes it commonplace for people to constantly scream up in each others’ faces and not value any other person but themselves, we will have a gun problem in school. Our kids don’t understand the permanency of death anymore!!! The middle school teacher then told parents they need to “STEP UP,” explaining that much of the cultural problem begins at home.

“My parents NEVER supported any bad behavior from me. I was terrified of doing something bad at school, as I would have not had a life until I corrected the problem and straightened my a** out. My parents invaded my life,” Raley wrote.

“They knew where I was ALL the time. They made me have a curfew. They made me wake them up when I got home. They made me respect their rules. They had full control of their house, and at any time could and would go through every inch of my bedroom, backpack, pockets, anything!” she explained.

“Parents: it’s time to STEP UP! Be the parent that actually gives a crap! Be the annoying mom that pries and knows what your kid is doing. STOP being their friend,” Raley charged.

Raley wanted to emphasize that her post had nothing to do with the conversation about guns or gun control. She wrote: This post wasn’t about gun control. This was me, loving the crap out of people and wanting the best for them. This was about my school babies and knowing that God created each one for greatness, and just wanting them to reach their futures. It’s about 20 years ago this year I started my teaching career. Violence was not this bad 20 years ago. Lack of compassion wasn’t this bad 20 years ago. And God knows 20 years ago that I wasn’t afraid daily to call a parent because I KNEW that 9 out of 10 would cuss me out, tell me to go to Hell, call the news on me, call the school board on me, or post all over FaceBook about me because I called to let them know what their child chose to do at school…because they are a NORMAL kid!!!!!

The State sure illegally subsidised post religious institutions into schools like Planned Parenthood as well as made school a virtual human right allowing the worst bullies to be there

The only thing the gun did was being to light what liberals do day in and day out in manner of nurturing terrorists in accademic institutions, bullying and blackmailing good students not going for the various idiot studies classes

I remember clearly, it was 1987 when they made us drop the Lord’s prayer in school. This was British Columbia.

Things haven’t improved since then.

She also, as a teacher, realizes her culture and laws (governing the teaching profession as well as Constitutionally mandated demands) prevent her from actually being effective.

Many public school venues disallow prayer in various settings; meetings, sports etc. and THERE is the very first and immediate assault on the parents ability to be a parent.

The child knows nothing except as he attends church on Sundays and school the other five, there is a defined line between the holiness Mama and Papa have been attempting to instill and the "reality" the child lives.

Y'gave him a smart phone when he was three .... what'd'ya' expect ?

No, causation is causation. I have watched what dependence on psychoactive drugs have done to people and their families, especially when they are no longer kept segregated from the general public.

One very key point missing from this discussion. We have cheapened human life in our country by murdering 60 million babies in the womb since 1973. We need to publicly state murdering babies at any age is wrong.

Yes. Both are wrong.

Is “wrong” still in our vocabulary?

...”She’s right - it’s the culture... that’s what we need to fix.”...

She is 100% on target! We all know that the destruction of the family is key, but, in addition, I would be interested to know where folks would begin to fix this, in a global sense, considering the filth we hear from the major news media everyday, the filth offered to our children through rap music, TV, movies and the idea that they are told that they do not know what gender they are from day to day, before they have even grown up! The damage to brains from the violent video games many feed on during all of their spare time is devastating to their development in almost every way. Most know nothing about the best selling book of all time, which is the Bible, but sexually explicit information is fed to them in public school way before they are ready to process it. And, how about the banning of that other best seller for so long? Shakespeare. What about classical music and great art before it became crazy through artist's addiction to heroin and other substances? Anyone who has been to the great art museums can see the cognitive changes, over time, when mind altering substances are used. What about the potential toxicity of mind altering anti-depressants and ADHD drugs, which became a way for boys to act more like girls, though their brains and their development is quite different in almost every way? Our world is turned upside-down and inside-out and the kids of all races are the pawns and the victims of it all. To change this culture, begin with MSNBC and go from there to the late night comedians and Hollywood. My opinion. The first order of business is to make our schools safe, even if it means that parents have to go on patrol in the wake of law enforcement which seems to have been that in name only. Sickening that the FBI has spent it's time investigating a duly elected President when real crime is running rampant and killing off our future which is our kids. "Helter-Skelter," wasn't just for Charles Manson! I am so infuriated. God bless this wonderful teacher and may her thoughts and words take root in the hearts of Americans.

That may be true about mental institions but unfortunately the great majority of those committing mass shootings are not mentally incapacitated. In fact I find it scary and a bit creepy that we are pushing this “it’s a mental health issue”. Yes I think it’s likely anyone who goes into a building and randomly shoots people is mentally ill in some way but it’s not for certain we could detect the issue or do anything about it. Many if not most of these acts are more related to terrorism type revenge than mental illness. Bottom line I think we are barking up the wrong tree trying to solve mass shootings through an increase in mental health diagnosis and treatment.

This isn’t your typical reason to homeschool, but what this teacher reveals about the state of public schools is very enlightening.

This is what kids who are sent to public schools are exposed to from the other kids they go with.

Unfortunately, Satan, whom Jesus names as the prince of this world, has injected his culture into this world through his minions (leftists, communists, mohammedans, sexual deviants, etc.). It will take a wholesale turning to Jesus to change things, if they are even changeable (may be sliding down the chute to Armageddon so no reversal will happen until He returns)

You said it!

WAR ON PUBLIC SCHOOL

Public schools are inherently violent. Quit paying your property tax tuition and you shall be jailed or shot.

Raley is the problem supporting public schools. She is cashing in on the violence.

Quit blaming others for violent, deep state bureaucrats.
Statists are inherently violent.

SCHOOL BOND VIOLENCE

If you voted YES to any school bond, you condone school violence. A coersive bond is the root of the violence.

Ever hear of Madelene Murray O’Hare? So then the states role is to teach, say, all about Islam? Or how to put on a condom or that Heather has two mommies? Sorry, I don't agree with you on this one.

I also want to point out that there is zero evidence that playing violent video games and watching violent action films causes people to actually want to murder others.

If you look at the facts objectively I think we have to conclude video games and television have little if anything to do with mass shootings. In fact they may actually have the opposite effect. Millions of kids and adults play violent shooting video games and watch violent movies and TV shows yet only a barely measurable fraction of a fraction of a percent of the populace commit these awful crimes. Since such a vast amount of people are exposed to violence in video games and movies yet nearly all of them NEVER commit any homicidal act it's entirely possible that the games and movies actually reduce the occurrences of violence. I'm not saying that is the case but the facts certainly support that possibility.

I applaud the teachers post for not mentioning gun control and putting more responsibility for teaching our kids how to behave.

I had a post in early 2001 called "My Theory On Why The School Shootings Are Occuring." Sadly, all my posts prior to September, 2001 were lost in an FR crash/rebuild.

The summary of my post from 17 years ago is this:

  1. Schools, due to budget cuts and new social justice curricula, were doing away with physical education, band, recess (some schools banned playing tag and dodgeball), playground equipment, and other activities designed to expend youthful energy.
  2. Students were entering puberty and adolescence, their bodies were growing rapidly, their hormones were changing, and they needed outlets during the day to expend excess energy. These classroom breaks were rapidly being taken away.
  3. Teachers, in an attempt to "control" classrooms from increasingly "unruly" students, would label kids with attention-deficit disorder, and have the children put on Ritalin, Lithium, or other psychiatric drugs, to suppress fidgeting and other energy release behaviors in the classroom.
  4. The children, now with loss of outdoor social activities and instead put on these psychiatric drugs, have their emotions dulled and lose the opportunity to learn valuable social skills from playing with other boys and girls in unstructured free time. See this recent article The Fragile Generation on the value of unstructured free time.
  5. After graduation from high school, these children are taken off the school-prescribed psychiatric drugs, "get woke," and now find themselves thrust into the adult world without having the free and clear-minded adolescent years to develop the necessary social skills to navigate relationships with other people.
  6. Simple perceived slights, such as being rejected on a date (or even getting up the nerve to ask someone out), being "dumped" for another suitor, being insulted by another, coming in last in a game, become magnified into major confrontations requiring the "dis" to be avenged, because they never learned how to manage disappointment as children.
  7. Because these angry, "disrespected" young adults still have the emotional development of post-puberty adolescents, they lash out in rage and tantrums instead of reflection and learning from mistakes to do better next time.
  8. Some become "snowflakes," behaving irrationally in adult situations. Others reach for the gun to "show everyone," and to solve their problem "once and for all."

In my opinion, not much has changed in the last 17 years to change my mind.

-PJ
