Now THAT was a great post - thanks for sharing!
That had to be a great experience with TW, RLJ & CEW. I saw RLJ in early 80’s on her tour promoting her first self-titled album.
I first heard TW on a local college radio - it was “Step Right Up”...and I was hooked forever! If I could have only one album, it would be “Small Change”.
I really enjoyed your Mardi Gras story - my wife (literally the-girl-next-door) & I spent 4 days at that same Mardi Gras - we could have seen you and your “entourage”. We stayed in a French Quarter hotel just a 1/2 block from Jackson Square. Each morning we went to the corner “restaurant” just across from Jackson Square for breakfast and I still recall how beautiful St Louis Cathedral was - even in my altered mindset.
It was a wild 4 days and the last night we intentionally stayed away from Bourbon street - crowd was too massive. Since my name is Jim, we found a bar called “Sloppy Jim’s” and had someone take our photo - we were totally wasted. Sadly, 3 years later she lost a battle to breast cancer at 28.
I recall wearing a slightly oversized army green jacket that had the same symbol of the Who’s “Quadrophenia” jacket cover...and everyone kept calling me “Pete”.
Thanks again for sharing your TW/Mardi Gras story - made my day and brought back some memories of my own!
Frankie Valli “My Eyes Adored You.”
Thanks for the backdrop on that, Drumbo. Youre a breath of fresh air.
Hard to be a misogynist when you’re a female.
My pick: My Eyes Adored You
My DH: Philadelphia Freedom :-\
We’re not changing!
Never too chatty. Good if posters want to chat on music especially here.
In the runoff, “Philadelphia Freedom,” please.
Philadelphia Freedom
of 3DogNight songs
Never Been To Spain was my favorite of theirs.
"Liar" is my favorite.
I vote for Frankie Valli.
I can't help letting worldview enter into my opinion on this one. I know what "Philadelphia Freedom" is about (the militant homosexual & feminist movements), and even though I like the song, I *don't* like it--if that makes sense.
HAHAHAHA!!! As I found out last week, The Ol Line Rebel is a LADY! :-D
Oh...hmmm...well....I just contacted the social justice warrior hotline. They assure me that women can be mystoginistws too...So we’re good. :)
I thought it was about a tennis team!
Which was disappointing enough - on the face of it it’s patriotic! LOL
I know what you mean about love/hate relation with songs. “American Woman” here is the prime example - we had posts complaining about it, but the music is what counts, and it won big time. I know it’s about how horrible we Americans are (and how jealous Canadians are), but it’s still pretty good sounding, at least compared to the competition.
Three Dog Night’s covers of The Band’s “Chest Fever” in ‘69, Laura Nyro’s “Eli’s Commin’”, Harry Nilsson’s “One”, Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness”, the Musical HAIR’s “Easy To Be Hard”, Dave Mason’s “Feelin’ Alright”, Stevie Winwood’s “Heaven In Your Mind”, Paul Roger’s “Woman”, Paul Williams’ “Out in The Country”, Dave Loggins’ “Pieces Of April”, Stevie Wonder’s “I Never Dreamed You’d Leave Me in Summer”, Alan “Happy Together” Gordon’s “Celebrate” and Russ “God Gave Rock and Roll to You” Ballard’s “Liar” were all awesome live experiences and made 3DN one of the greatest must-see cover bands of the 70s. Hoyt Axton’s novelty “Joy To The World”, not so much imho - although I suppose it is their best known, most requested and highest charting song.
