The Democrats well remember their success in baiting George H. Bush into alienating his base by persuading him to renege on his campaign pledge: “Read my lips … no new taxes!” Well the new taxes came, the already suspicious base could no longer rationalize to themselves that Bush would continue the Reagan legacy, and Bush was a single-term President. His successor being none other than Bill Clinton.
If granting amnesty to illegal aliens — who are trespassers in this land — does not equate to a “read my lips” level betrayal, it’s hard to imagine what would be.
The White House would have us believe that we’ll get (some form of, or some portion of) the campaign-promised border wall in return. Or at least some initial funding toward that. Well, been there, done that. Does anyone reading this believe that a “comprehensive border wall” will be quickly erected, and to completion across the southern border? Me neither. Besides, why should we have to “trade” anything for the wall?
This writer hopes and prays that, as before, his concerns regarding President Trump prove wrong, and that we all end up pleasantly surprised and optimistic again that we have a President actually fighting for the best interests of America and its American citizens. But one would have to be a fool to not be gravely concerned about developments over the past several days. Just when it was really starting to feel like we finally had the first Republican President since Ronald Reagan that wouldn’t stab us in the back once in office, we get a “bipartisan” knife-sharpening party at the White House. Pray that this is a false alarm. If not, this could be the final Progressive nail in the coffin of this country as originally founded.

The only thing Trump CANT Do is betray his base. Most of which voted for him because we know, if something is not done about immigration, no other issue will matter because the dems will use immigration to get more votes (as their memo admits) and eventually control everything, like they do in Mexifornia.

Trump long ago said they can stay. The question is getting the wall, ending chain migration, etc. I wish the Senate would just end the damn cloture rules and pass the agenda.

Immigration really is the only issue we can seriously afford to worry about at the moment. If we lose on that, we lose on everything. If Trump wants to compromise on almost any other issue, but stays strong on the border and immigration, his base would probably give him leeway. If he stays strong on every other issue and backs down on immigration, it’s over.

If Trump does sign amnesty, especially repeating Reagan's amnesty now, immigration reform and secuirty later failure, if he creates is "Read My Lips" moment, yep, he's a one termer. I do not see how he could recover from such a lie. Nothing he could do would make up for allowing 30-60 million illegal aliens, even just 3-5 or 10 million get amnesty. Do this and he is history.
If Donald gets the wall for keeping DACA he is walling in the destroyers of our jobs, culture and country.
Better to send DACAs back to build their country get more agents on border and up fines for and enforce e-verify.
I want to see a WALL on the Southern Border already BUILT before ANYTHING related to DACA is discussed..seeing what happened yesterday with that liberal judge in CA..Dems can promise anything(With their fingers crossed behind their backs) all it takes is ONE judge to overturn it..so NOTHING I repeat NOTHING is done with DACA til I see the wall already built..Trump says he wants it built within a year..FINE WITH ME..build it, then we can talk about DACA

It’s been my driving issue for at least twenty years. I have a friend who only cares about tax policy. Tax policy can be changed. Once we’re invaded, we stay invaded. And we never get a break. We beat back Bush/Rove, and still they keep coming. Ironic that they’ll finally get what they’ve wanted under the guy most opposed to it.
If they end chain migration (I can see bringing in your kids or an aging parent, but those folks shouldn’t be able to bring anyone else in). If they build the wall (which will seriously damage the Dems for the next election since they have over-promised). These will be amazing accomplishments. This is NOT Trump’s “read my lips” moment.
