Trump Attempts to Save Senate Obamacare Bill by Calling Ted Cruz Personally
RedState ^ | 06/24/2017 | Susan Wright

I can’t imagine what he could have said to put enough shine on the current version of an Obamacare replacement bill that would persuade Senator Cruz to embrace it.

The Senate needs 50 votes to get the bill to pass. They can’t rely on Democrats to help in that effort, so they have to pull all the Republican support they can muster. To date, that seems a faraway hope, as well.

Senators Cruz, Rand Paul, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee, and as of Friday, Dean Heller have all rejected the bill, as written.

Cruz, Paul, Johnson, and Lee released this statement on Thursday:

..

A report from the Washington Post says the president called Senator Cruz personally, in an attempt to get him to change his mind.

Hey....Obama came back from Hawaii to twist some arms. And those guys didn't even know what the hell was in it and they still voted for it.

Keep your doctor. Yeh right.

The Senate bill is a bail out for the Insurance Companies.

Why does Trump want his name on this?

Not sure but apparently he has to get this done as a prerequisite for tax cuts.

I never figured out why the insurance companies didn’t see the writing on the wall when they supported Obamacare...the whole thing was supposed to collapse and then with Hillary running things we’d end up with single payer and no more health insurance companies. At least that didn’t work...so far.

Might work, just not the way WashPo expects. Ted could tell Trump which Rinos need their arms twisted off to allow sufficient amendments to make a decent bill.

Isn’t Red State the Eric Erickson site and he’s a virulent NeverTrumper? Just saying.

I still claim there is linkage - repeal Obamacare -> pass tax cuts -> take savings to rebuild military and build the wall. It all flows together. If you won’t budge to make the first two happen, you can’t get to the savings.

Where is the “savings” coming from?

How much goes towards the 21 trillion dollar debt?

Why should Cruz need to be told to do what he was elected to do?

The left will blame the Republicans for anything that happens regarding health insurance (not healthcare!) even if they do nothing!

Likely because in the short term they’d get more money. So they thought. With government subsidies footing the bill for more policies, they anticipated more customers so more profit.

STEP 1: Congress doesn't repeal Obamacare! Instead, Congress passes a law, pursuant to its constitutional power to regulate interstate commerce, that says: "In America, it shall be legal to sell health insurance on the free market. This law supersedes all other laws, taxes, mandates, coverage requirements, regulations or prohibitions, state or federal.”

Folks, is this the true solution? Can this be done?

It's not even a nuclear option. It's the friggin' asteroid or comet that killed the dinosaurs.
