(Not to mention the beautiful Charlize Theron.)

She had her arm amputated for that role! The lengths she went to for that role.

They haven’t made a good Star Trek movie yet. That includes Khan which was a little better than most.

Come on, now - Star Trek II was the greatest-ever cinematic clash of ham vs. ham! I still watch that one when it comes on. As for the rest, each has its moments (and some which would best be discarded). To illustrate that, they guy behind the "New Voyages" fan films did a re-cut of Star Trek V (called "In Thy Image") and pared it down to around 60 minutes with Original Series style "act" breaks. He turned one of the worst films into his vision of what the proposed 1970s "Star Trek - Phase II" pilot would've looked like. It's much improved.

I watched an episode last night, “The Menagerie” which was remarkable considering they rehashed it from the original pilot.

No argument there, it's some of the best work ever done by the franchise. Excellent use of the old pilot for flashback scenes. It's the first episode I can recall seeing on TV when I was young - my mother was aghast at the "Stop this illusion or I'll twist your head off!" scene. I thought the scene was great. Years later, I came to appreciate the episode more for Susan Oliver's character. :-)

Simon Pegg is pretty good as Scotty.

Interestingly, he also co-wrote the movie. The other writer played Sulu's husband.

Lots of practical effect and very little CGI.

"Fury Road" had a hell of a lot of CGI, but it was primarily used to enhance shots rather than replace them.

Check out the VFX breakdown here.

I only officially noticed her a couple of days ago. She has been in surprisingly big movies, without me noticing that its the same woman. A lot of time she has a lot of makeup on like in Star Trek. The is the mummy in the current Tom Cruise mummy movie as well.

"Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" was highly entertaining.

Methinks the “reboot” should get the boot.

Is that the one which was a thinly disguised “save the whales” commercial.

That had to have been the stupidest movie ever.

Transparent aluminum. Right place, right time for the “inventors.”

There have been so many Star Trek films that they’re starting to rip themselves off. But in ‘Beyond’ they managed to rip off Star Wars (A New Hope) as well.

Kirk and crew suddenly want to go out and intercept a mysterious threat. Where have we seen that before?

The finale - combat/race in tight spaces - is a shameless lift of the original Star Wars Death Star battle.

It’s a shame because the actors typically sign 3-picture deals and Paramount et al have squandered the entire cast (not all of them are good however) and three whole films.

I’ve read several sources who note that films cannot be made profitable without sales in Russia, China and elsewhere therefore big dumb loud noisy whiz-bang nothingness is the order of the day since dialogue and plot-heavy films don’t translate idiomatically.

On the other hand, the producers and studios all claim that audiences have ADD and won’t pay attention to nuance but I believe it is the filmmakers who suffer the ADD. The sausage-factory scriptwriting process in Hollyweird is also abysmal.

Now there will be a tiresome reboot of a franchise that only rebooted in 2009.

The worst (or most merciful) part of "Beyond" is that it is so amazingly forgettable. I saw it a while back and can't recall much other than the alien makeup and dirt bike nonsense.

I swear, I think part of the reason that CBS halted the Axanar fan film project is because it had more potential and an actual story line.

I first saw her in The Kingsmen and then in this Star Trek movie. I saw her a couple of days ago in the Mummy. I went to a matinee and saw why the movie is flopping.

Sofia's role didn't giver her much to work with, even though it was the title character. Then Satan gets reincarnated into Cruise's body and he fights evil? What a head scratcher.

I know the rules:
