....”people to TAKE and TAKE and TAKE and NEVER give anything back”

There was a term used a while back called Toxic Charity... A Web search will clarify.

(Huffpo) “According to Robert Lupton, not really. His new book, “Toxic Charity,” draws on his 40 years’ experience as an urban activist in Atlanta, and he argues that most charitable work is ineffective or actually harmful to those it is supposed to help.”

The federal government should not be in the Welfare and Food Stamp business at all.

Precisely.

Work, all kinds, even the “dirty” jobs, is vital to an individuals mental health. Too bad so many people have never experienced that.

You are so right.

This is true. I have seen so many people on disability, who could do some productive work, if not full time and maybe not at full strength, but who dare not because it would jeopardize their disability payments, which are difficult to reinstate, while in the meantime their job such as it is has no guarantee of being around in a year. They make the rational decision to stick with their bird in the hand, and don't try to work.

Same with welfare payments. They both need to be configured so that there is a scale which encourages the motivation to work and earn.

Then again, I believe Maine has a program of work requirement for single able bodied welfare recipients, which pretty much eliminated that demographic from the welfare rolls. So there are many things that could be done if the government was operated on a rational basis.

That’s a good start, and everyone needs to pay income taxes, even if it’s in principle.

My Mother told me over 50 Years ago that “you help People who CAN’T help themselves, not People who WON’T help themselves”.

Her younger Sister was blinded by Glaucoma in her early 20’s. There was no Treatment back then. The only decision you made was whether you wanted to keep your Eyeballs in your Head or get them removed if the pain was too great.

She went to work sewing Garments in what we would call a Sweat Shop in today’s lexicon. She got up every morning, got her self ready, packed a Lunch and caught a Bus to work.

No Seeing Eye Dog, no Government paid Home Health Worker, just a Cane and deciding she would be a Productive Member of Society despite her Handicap.

When I was a whiny Teenager complaining about working for my Father to get an “allowance”, he told me “Nobody owes you a living, so shut up and get back to work”.

Like they say, the Safety Net has turned into a Hammock.

It is well documented that many many food stamp recipients ship the food they buy with their stamps overseas to relatives to sell. Some Hispanic neighborhood stores even sell containers in their store to facilitate the shipping! Many people also use their food stamps to obtain items not supposed to be covered by food stamps. There is such blatant and widespread abuse that this program should be sharply curtailed, and and a whole lotta oversight should be given to the future food stamp program.

LePage did something like this in Maine and for the able bodied without kids at home, something like 80% dropped from the program because they were unwilling to do their minimal volunteer/work/education requirement.

In other words, they didn't need it, they were just milking (and voting for democrats.)

At the super market today. Was in line behind a fat minority woman who paid with her EBT card. Turns out she was parked two slots away from me in the lot. Brand new gigantic black Escalade, with the sticker still in the back window. And,,,,, a “Handicapped” tag on the mirror. There was nothing wrong with her except excess fat!

Take an average American family that’s going along.

Dad decides he wants an Escalade, but he doesn’t have the money in the budget for a $600 a month payment.

He applies for Foodstamps. Nobody checks his actual income.

The family receives $600 a month in Foodstamps.

That frees up enough money in the family budget to make the payment on the Escalade.

Daddy’s got a new set of wheels courtesy of the American Taxpayers.

Welfare fraud not only benefits those who receive it, but those who dole it out as well. It’s only the idiots that play by the rules that actually suffer.

To do so, President Trump wants able-bodied adults without dependent children to work for their food stamps, Mulvaney said.

I may have the timeline wrong, but didn't Newt's Republican Congress force Bill Clinton to reduce Welfare time limits and require work in some form? Don't recall what Bush did with it, but Obama eliminated the "Work for Welfare" requirement which expanded the welfare roles back to before the "Contract With America".

The welfare roles had actually significantly reduced under Newt's efforts. Then we get a socialist whining marxist along with a socialist Congress who reversed such positive efforts that got so many off the generational welfare roles and gave them the pride of self-reliance.

That was one of if the biggest failures of Obambi. Time to start over with Newt's time limits and work for welfare policies, but nobody is talking about it.

"but nobody is talking about it."

Oops, yes, Trump is talking about it according to this thread, but he needs the support of the Congress to get it done. Who in Congress is supporting this?
