The Trump administration wants to impose a work requirement on able-bodied adults who receive food stamps and force states to pick up some of the costs as part of a wider plan to slash spending by $3.6 trillion over the next decade.
Budget director Mick Mulvaney said that once states have “a little skin in the game,” they will be more inclined to root out abuses and waste in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Enrollments haven’t decreased much since the recession despite a low 4.5 percent unemployment rate.
The program cost about $33 billion in 2007 with 26 million enrollees. By 2013, costs peaked at nearly $80 billion with 47.6 million participants.
But despite the economic recovery, there were still about 44 million people getting benefits in 2016 at a cost of $71 billion.....

This will smoke out the ones who have a job and make good money but get food stamps so they can buy that new Audi with the cash they don’t have to spend on groceries.
Meanwhile, as a 100% permanently & totally disabled veteran (housebound) I don’t qualify.
An honest job, no matter what it is, is a gift from God. My low paying, bottom rung, office worker job got me through my mother’s cancer and death. It was one place I could go and forget about my life for 8 hours.
Work, all kinds, even the “dirty” jobs, is vital to an individuals mental health. Too bad so many people have never experienced that.

About 60% of these households do currently have jobs.
The next time you see someone at the grocery check-out lane with a basket full of expensive groceries, check how they pay the bill. I’ll bet you see a food stamp card (EBT, electronic benefits transfer) being offered to pay.
I’ve had many food stamp recipients tell me they do this and then sell the nice groceries (steaks, etc) to their neighbors for $.50 on the dollar.
That’s OUR tax money they are stealing.
Food stamps and SSI are horribly abused.
