Donkeys hate coyotes, so much so that they sometimes go postal on intruding 'yotes like this donkey did.
South Carolina landowner Steve Hipps has a grass pasture in his backyard that's guarded by a donkey named Buck.
Buck used to share the pasture with a female donkey, but when she had babies, Hipps decided to let Buck have it all to himself.
"I just wanted something in there to keep the grass eaten down, and I've always loved donkeys," Hipps told Georgia Outdoor News.

Llamas also kill coyotes, or donkeys also kill llamas?
Isn’t that “specie-ism” or sume such?
I mean “hating” a whole species...
A farm near my house has a donkey out to protect the cows and calves a lot of the time. They’re coyote killers for sure.
Sorry, llamas are fearless around coyotes.
I just learned about this last week; was reading about putting either a donkey or llama out with a flock of sheep to protect them. Interesting.
Either one will lay a serious hurting on coyotes. The neighbors in back of me have a donkey in with theirs, on rare occasion I hear him raising heck in the middle of the night. No doubt that’s him and a coyote.
I’ve heard donkeys in Tijuana can be messed with & can put on quite a show.
I like donkeys but I LOVE mules. There was a thread many years ago here about a mule who killed a mountain lion, many pictures of the attack and kill. It was impressive.
One of my neighbors has a herd of alpacas with one llama. Couple of times a year the llama stomps a yote into a pancake.
However, they aren't always the most reliable security beasts.
The dairy next door to our cattle farm had two donkeys to protect their herd of milk cows from coyotes. The owner had to get rid of them after one of them killed several newborn calves.
You can’t use a male or Jack, it has to be female or Jenny. The males can get aggressive with the animals they are supposed to protect, even after they have lived with them a while. A lot of people don’t realize that and are shocked when it happens.

My farming family considered Jenny’s to be the best for all around duty, back in the day.
Me 2, Me 2, Me 2. I have my old mule, Jake, and 2 mini donkeys. Talk about love. They are just big puppies and so affectionate. No way are they just left in the field and ignored. They need to show love to me and the rest of the family several times a day. And mules are so extremely smart. Jake has been sharing his thoughts with me for years. Very good at getting his point across. Amazing. Again, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these animals.
Don’t ask me how I came by it. Grew up on the south side of Chicago. Never owned a mule, although we did have dairy goats for over 20 years and most of my mule contact has been at our county fair. In 2005 we took a trip to Lancaster to see family. Went for a drive on a Sunday. Passed by pasture after pasture of mules turned out for their day off. Took some great pictures. Green fields, wildflowers and about 15 mules - HEAVEN!!
