Shinzo Abe’s dad, Shintaro Abe, was PM during the Reagan years. It wouldn’t surprise me if Shinzo sees Reagan in Trump, along with a Reaganesque economic renaissance coming in the late 2010s, and his zaibatsu supporters want in on it.

Japan is not doing this out of the goodness of their heart. The population is shrinking and over a quarter of the population is over 65. The only way for the Japanese economy to keep from contracting is to outsource work to countries that have a labor surplus.
