Yes, I read your post. The lyrics were bad but it was easy to dance to.

You would expect that President Lincoln would negotiate with the agents of an insurgency against his own country? Gee, that would have set a bad precedent.

Wait first the ‘Goon’ says the South really never left the Union and I have you saying those were foreign agents. It is confusing to be a unionist.

That’s cool, man. Don’t give it another thought. I see now that your difficulty is reading comprehension.

You may have a point. Meanwhile, we’re seeing a bit of a new civil war inside this thread.

The only issue of dispute is making them pay for their fair share of the National Debt and National debt obligations that their Liberal congressional team has racked up since FDR. Settle their monetary accounts with us and I shall be happy to see that cesspool of a state government excise themselves from this body politic.

1) There are unintended consequences to your position. Make sure you understand them. Decisions in isolation or emotion, are not good ones.

2) I would encourage you to research the demise of the Soviet Union. IT is a recent event and was an interesting process. There were several causes to their demise and we are in very a similar situation. Our demise may be the same but different.

“Our demise may be the same but different.”

I fully understand what you are saying, but maybe not.

The prospect of eliminating California's lopsided support of Democrats with their 55 electoral votes is a very significant gain in correcting what is wrong with this country. Much of the disaster that has befallen us for the past 75 years is the consequence of Democrat presidents and their appointed Judges. Without California constantly dragging the nation leftward, we might actually be able to solve some problems for a change.

I don't see the Soviet Union as having been wrecked by political correctness and an obsession with diversity. They were wrecked because the socialist economic model doesn't work. In this country, we are simply importing and birthing more people who are foolish enough to believe that it does. This is what will ultimately wreck us.

I've been weighing whether or not I wanted to respond to you at all because I regard most exchanges with you and several others to be completely unproductive, but sometimes I have spare time and I do like to argue.

Then how can you constrain it by placing burdens on California before allowing them to leave?

I'm not allowing them to leave. They can leave. But what they can't do is think i'm going to forget about all the money they owe.

Set up their own national government. Appoint ambassadors. Print their own money. All is fine, just make sure it is understood that they will be obligated to pay their share of the Federal debt which they more than most, helped to run up.

As I have mentioned, most of the unfunded Federal Obligations are in the form of Social Security/Medicare spending, so it might be reasonable to conclude that if they agree to cover these Federal Obligations for their own population, then perhaps that is sufficient to meet the burden of resolving their debt to the U.S.A.

It is not an insolvable barrier. If they want to leave, let them Leave! I think there is a good chance the rest of us will be better off without them.

It's the same Civil War as before. The memes in conflict then are still in conflict now. Much of our modern policy (such as "gay marriage" and abortion) is a direct consequence of the original civil war.

And so you decided to respond. Poor choice on your part.

You said: “No, they weren’t”

Do you mean that none were sent?

DiogenesLamp: “The only problem with this is that the Southern states tried to pay their obligations...”

You: “When?”

December 28, 1860 (SC to Buchanan), January 14, 1861 (SC Governor to Buchanan), January 26, 1861 (SC delegates to Buchanan), February 27, 1861 (Confederate President to Union President-elect).

First three were South Carolina alone and the fourth was not an offer to pay for anything.

The state of South Carolina made three efforts to pay for its portion of federal debt and federal property.

Not good enough to prove “when”?

It’s nothing today like the Civil War was. The memes in conflict then are nothing like the memes in conflict now. None of our modern policy (such as “gay marriage” and abortion) is a direct consequence of the original civil war.

“The memes in conflict then are nothing like the memes in conflict now.”

Back then the urban-center elites wanted to gain political, economic, and institutional control over the rural hicks who were clinging to God and guns, and the Constitution. The elites wanted a strong, centralized government in Washington that had total power over the states.

Nothing at all like the situation today.

But the emotions and political divisions are like they were leading to the conflict. The difference is in the makeup of the two sides. The conservatives are armed, the liberals lawyer-up.

Gee, where to place the bet?
