Smug liberal newspapers and tv networks have paid a heavy price for their criticism of Trump. Americans think of Trump as the underdog in this race and theres nothing worse than piling on the underdog. For these liberal hacks who have been writing their leftist opinions as opposed to real news for decades, theyre about to find out what it means to be considered irrelevant by their former readers
The subscription cancellations were coming every 10 minutes. Angry readers have been calling in droves.
Were feeling the weight of our history, Phil Boas, the editorial page editor of The Arizona Republic, said in a telephone interview on Wednesday. Until it endorsed Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, the newspaper, founded in 1890, had never endorsed a Democrat over a Republican for president.
In endorsing Mrs. Clinton, The Republics editorial was, by any interpretation, scathing toward her opponent, Donald J. Trump. Trump responds to criticism with the petulance of verbal spit wads, the editorial says at one point. Thats beneath our national dignity.
The papers lay out different reasons for supporting Mrs. Clinton over Mr. Trump his lack of political experience versus her established political career, his outbursts and insults versus her steadiness and some are perhaps more repudiations of Mr. Trump than glowing endorsements of Mrs. Clinton, whose faults are also cited.
For some readers, however, the endorsements proved a step too far. Certainly, weve paid a price for our presidential recommendation, Mike Wilson, the editor of The Dallas Morning News, told Poynter this month.
Mr. Boas of The Arizona Republic said he expected a lot of cancellations, pointing to cancellations at The Cincinnati Enquirer, which like The Republic, is owned by Gannett.

Many of these papers are publishing free editions that they litter local lawns with. They can’t get circulation any other way. Not to worry: there will be plenty of “media wisdom” for the lining of birdcages for now.
Good. People can go to the library if they want to read “fiction” anyway : )
Get real.
Today the Chicago Tribune completed the sale of the Tribune Tower, a Chicago landmark and for decades the physical embodiment of what called itself “The World’s Greatest Newspaper”. All across the country the Tribune Company has been selling off assets trying to stay afloat, like a starving organism living off its final fat reserves before cannibalizing essential tissue.
We cancelled our subscription to the Trib immediately after the 2008 election, during which the Trib kept it’s collective lips firmly glued to BO’s posterior - can’t remember a more satisfying feeling than mailing back empty their continual pleas to resubscribe, and telling their telephone solicitors to start looking for a job with an actual future. Die, journalistic scum, and take your slanted world view with you.
I don't see DJT as petty, you can't be running his empire, but I don't think he'll forget this, not a smart move AZ...
That’s still not enough. Maybe the newsrooms will be outsourced to H1B visa holders. Or maybe just outsourced to Bangalore. There’s no need for a US presence if what you’re going to write is fiction.
Jared Kirchner already owns a paper in NY.
I'm not, that has got the fingerprints of the Bushes all over it, prolly especially too make Barbara happy. BTW, I didn't remember this, On Laura's show yesterday her and her guest was talking about how Barbara didn't go to Nancy Reagan's Memorial Service. I am not going their as to opine on Barbara, not gonna do it...
The down side of cancelling your subscription is you can only do it once. I did many years ago, I just wish I could do it again.
Is this website real?
I canceled my subscription to the Kansas City Red Star back into thousand and eight I have never look back on my decision
Yeah, because the other candidate, the beast, just destroys their lives and, in some cases, has them killed. That's so much closer to our "national dignity"
It was sad to see the paper of Robert McCormick (staunch opponent of FDR) go down the toilet, but it started in the 90s. The same with the Pulliam family’s Indianapolis Star, after it was bought by Gannett.
They are Conquest’s Second Law in action.
In May 2004, Turner and activist Sadiki Kambon held a press conference to reveal photos purportedly showing US soldiers raping Iraqi women. The pictures were eventually identified as fakes, but only after four of the alleged rape shots appeared in a Boston Globe photo of the two men. Turner was subjected to wide criticism from conservative media and was censured by six members of the City Council. The reporter warned the editor not to run the pictures, or the story, but he did anyway.
Our local papers are free (and packed with ads); I haven’t seen people delivering paid newspapers in decades.
The Wall Street Journal typically does not endorse a presidential candidate but there are rumors they might change that policy this year.
I will proclaim this now, should the WSJ endorse the Secretary of Hate, I shall immediately cancel my subscription and I will up the monthly payment I already make to Free Republic.
The only reason I now get the Sunday newspaper is for bird cage paper for the week. I have 3 birds. I used to get two Wall Street journals every day but cancelled them both due to their anti Trump articles.
Thats beneath our national dignity.
This country has had precious little national dignity since Bill Clinton’s presidency.
Whereas when you criticize Hillary, you end up getting despondent and committing Arkancide (at worst), or having your life destroyed, at best. I'm sure one of these candidates is worse than the other, I just can't decide which. /sarc
The only reason I buy an occasional newspaper is to use it as charcoal starter for my Weber grill. These newspapers are fools who cannot afford to lose readers. They probably shouldn’t have endorsed anyone.
