Today the Chicago Tribune completed the sale of the Tribune Tower, a Chicago landmark and for decades the physical embodiment of what called itself “The World’s Greatest Newspaper”. All across the country the Tribune Company has been selling off assets trying to stay afloat, like a starving organism living off its final fat reserves before cannibalizing essential tissue.

We cancelled our subscription to the Trib immediately after the 2008 election, during which the Trib kept it’s collective lips firmly glued to BO’s posterior - can’t remember a more satisfying feeling than mailing back empty their continual pleas to resubscribe, and telling their telephone solicitors to start looking for a job with an actual future. Die, journalistic scum, and take your slanted world view with you.

It was sad to see the paper of Robert McCormick (staunch opponent of FDR) go down the toilet, but it started in the 90s. The same with the Pulliam family’s Indianapolis Star, after it was bought by Gannett.

They are Conquest’s Second Law in action.
