I don’t think he deserves the attention that a column about him brings, but Colin Kaepernick’s stunt this past weekend of refusing to stand for the national anthem in a preseason game did generate a couple of thoughts I wanted to share. One concerns the increasingly commonplace (and thus, increasingly meaningless) use of gestures like this by athletes to showboat about issues they really don’t understand. The other concerns the growing inclination of normal Americans to proceed into histrionics about people not standing, not saluting, not putting their hands on their hearts, whatever.
This is what our county has become under Obama/Hillary.

The 49ers need to cut their losses and cut this flash in a pan from their roster. After this stupid grandstanding, he will be nothing but a negative no matter what role the team might give him from here on. Let him fade into obscurity since I doubt others teams would want him.

Yet another example of “cognitive dissonance.” I.e., a multi-millionaire black complaining of black oppression.
Kaepernick has the right to do this. But Free Speech rights cuts both ways: we the fans have the right to shun him for doing this. And despite what the 49ers management and coaching staff said publicly, this may be the last straw before “Kaep” is cut from the team when it reaches the 53-man season roster.
