Article V For a Republic Worth Keeping
Article V Blog ^ | August 26th 2016 | Rodney Dodsworth

As I recall from Gibbon, the Western Roman Empire went out with more of a whimper than a bang. By the time of Alaric and his Visigoths in 410 AD, Rome was so corrupt and weak there was little to stand in his way. In broad strokes it is fair to say that Roman society declined simultaneously with government. Long before the fall, Roman republican citizenship was a precious possession, a jewel of unsurpassed value. As such it was held closely and kept in short supply, for among other privileges, the Roman citizen wasn’t taxed. He was exempt from the possibility of torture. Even into the empire, he could, under certain circumstances, appeal judicial rulings to the Emperor.

By the end, Roman citizenship was a burden to be avoided. The citizen was taxed to the hilt. Government couldn’t protect him from domestic or foreign borne violence. Local populations built defensive walls as the means to a protection the state could no longer provide.

Today, we hear of enclaves of law abiding citizens that resort to private security. New communities are often promoted as “gated.” Bug Out plans and SHTF oriented websites are common. Public school students are taught to revile their heritage. More Americans renounce their citizenship every year. Those who remain are taxed to support hundreds of thousands of unwanted muslims incapable of assimilation. Rulers live separate existences in an imperial city, far removed in interest and wealth from the ruled. La Raza, Luis Gutiérrez and like-minded officials openly invite barbarians with the intent of overwhelming American culture, if not the annexation of western states to Mexico.

Man fights to keep that which he prizes, while he lets go of that which is a dead load of no value. So which is it? Is the United States worth keeping? If worth keeping, patriots must go out of their way to see that those brought up with hate of, or indifference to, American ideals are properly educated.

An Article V convention is perhaps the best means to bring forth American ideals into the public eye. As envisioned by the Article V State Legislators Caucus, the convention will be open to general attendance. If so, it is likely to be video recorded in its entirety, and probably broadcast live on C-Span. Here, the nation will view state delegations of men and women, unbeknownst to the media and congress, as they argue for and against the various state amendment proposals. We will see if they rise to the occasion and conduct themselves as if the eye of history is upon them. In the process, expositions on the fundamental principles of our founding are a certainty. Proponents will perhaps do verbal battle with enemies of our Declaration; so be it. It is long past time for patriots and SJW to put their cards on the table and present their visions for America.

Since no society in history ever sold themselves into slavery, an Article V convention constitutes a measured risk, a measured risk in favor of free government we must take. We’ll find out if the remains of our republic are worth saving.

We are the many; our oppressors are the few. Be proactive. Be a Re-Founder. Join Convention of States. Sign the COS Petition.

Almost to much to ponder so early in the morning. As usual late night FR is more thought provoking.

I have no problem with an Article V convention per se, but I'd rather wait to see what President Trump can do when he's in office.

If it's hillary, the battle will be immediate and bloody and there will be NO allowance for anything Constitutional,

This should have been considered in 1973 after the supers found Constitutional abortion/murder legal

The Roman Republic went from around 500 bc till Gaius Julius Caesar who died, the Ides of march, 44bc. No Visigoths were around.
Our Republic is at a fragile point.
The Empire would be our next step but I don’t see that happening.

The two paragraphs before the last sentence, are the best evidence against an article V convention that I have read recently.

” In the process, expositions on the fundamental principles of our founding are a certainty. Proponents will perhaps do verbal battle with enemies of our Declaration; so be it. It is long past time for patriots and SJW to put their cards on the table and present their visions for America.”

My vision for America is contained in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. I don’t need it re-addressed in a convention setting with the following warning contained in the next to last paragraph. “Since no society in history ever sold themselves into slavery, an Article V convention constitutes a measured risk, a measured risk in favor of free government we must take. We’ll find out if the remains of our republic are worth saving.” Why even a measured risk when our problems today are not a result of or caused by the Constitution.

“Why even a measured risk when our problems today are not a result of or caused by the Constitution.”

Thank you very much, I have typed so many responses saying the same thing that my fingers are tired. The last time I remarked that when the punks have taken over the classroom it is useless for the teacher to write new rules on the blackboard. It really is a classic case of trying to fix what isn’t broken because some people won’t use it correctly.

The problem is a general lack of knowledge of the personal freedom intended by God and the founders. Just as the holy bible is the word of God, the constitution is as well.

The globalists, Marxists, and grifters of America desire to deny God, His greatness, and the fact that He has repeatedly used this nation for good, and to reset the world onto the course He desires.

Excellent analogy of why Article V is a bad idea!

We need to rise up against the punks that ruin things without delay, since they grow stronger as time goes by.
Classroom management 101, confront, discipline and get rid of the punks early on who ruin constructive governance.

Our will to deal with gov’t punks has become weak because we’ve lost the shared sense of moral value outrage and have gotten used to corruption for so long.

Change occurs when the price of change is less then the price of remaining the same.

I have an idea for a constitutional amendment! It should say,
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state
That’s already in the Constitution? Well, I guess we have to modify it to
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person , not even a Democrat, holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state

Well, as I explained, that’s why an Article V convention is so important. The nation will be exposed to two opposing visions for America.

I also have great hopes for what Donald Trump might accomplish. The problem, as you intimated, is the accumulation of precedents both judicial and executive that will remain for the next obama or hildebeast to take advantage of.

Several scotus decisions were overturned by Constitutional amendment. It can and must be done again.

If Two States Convened.

Toward an Annual Article V State Amendments Convention (II).

No one can say nor predict President Trump, but he sure talks like he’s going to have a TON of citizens surrounding him as advisors and we MUST have faith in SUCCESSFUL AMERICANS to BE good and DO good for the Republic

The nation will be exposed to two opposing visions for America.

With the present political makeup in America, literally fifty fifty, why in anyone’s name would you subject your sacred document to the possibility of the dark side winning the contest? You would not believe some of the off the wall ideas the left will attempt to make a part of the new vision for our global Amerika.

I have been a part of rules making efforts by at least two pro-Article V groups one of whom desires a bi-partisan effort. In today’s political climate that is a most dangerous position to promote when it comes to preservation of your fundamental principles.

WEll you would be correct. We don’t need to amend the Constitution we just need to start abiding by it. There is already a remedy for every problem in the original Constitution and ammemdments. The remedy for an overreaching govt is the 10th Amendment.

I suppose you people will have to wake up in a gulag before it occurs to you that an Article V convention to reverse tyranny was a good idea.
