The British Are Coming—to the Deep South
Condé Nast Traveler ^ | August 22, 2016 | Danica Lo

Posted on 08/22/2016 10:51:56 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The Brits are coming for our po' boys, our music, and our swamp tours.

A deep-seated curiosity about America's cultural and political history brings international travelers south, in droves.

It will probably come as no surprise that for the more than 3.8 million Brits who travel to the United States each year, their most-visited regions stateside are California and the Northeast. But over the past 18 months, travel agents in the U.K. have noticed a surprising surge in inquiries around trips to the Deep South—making it the third most-requested destination at travel agencies such as Audley, who curate individual itineraries for clients.

"There's been a real spike in demand in the last 18 months for the Deep South," Alex Bentley, Audley's head of North America, tells Condé Nast Traveler. Some of the company's most popular programs sends clients on self-guided drives through New Orleans to Mobile Bay, through Georgia and the Carolinas, and to explore the music scene and bourbon distilleries in Tennessee and Kentucky, respectively. "There's great growth in that part of the country—it's now our third most-popular region after California and New England. There's something there that really resonates with our clients."

In part, this renewed curiosity is rooted in a search for an authentically American experience—and an interest in our country's culture and history, says Bentley...

Talking about the mafia!

Close to twenty years ago I delivered a load of meat to NYC.
Can’t remember the business name or the location but I remember it was a Jewish business.

The load details gave the warning “do not get out of truck for any reason after business closes.”

Being a foolish red neck on his first trip to the city I got out to stretch my legs.
I had seen some feral yoot types prowling about so I left the engine running and stayed beside the truck door.

No sooner had I closed the door than the ferals gathered like a pack of wolves.
“Whatchoo got in da truck crackah?”
“This load is for XYZ meats “ I said.

Those ferals stopped dead in their tracks, put up their hands and started backing off.
Never saw them again.

My introduction to the Jewish mob.

Jews pay the italians for that kind of protection.

They were smart and got their kids into college in the 30s and got out of racketeering.

The Israeli mob is BIG.

Jews deal quite a bit with mafia but really dont know of any organized Jewish outfits out here anymore.

Though there have been rumors that some of the Jewish anti defamation groups are actually organized crime fronts.

Like the Italian Knights of Columbus are accused of for the italian mafia.

I remember one cover on the NY Post maybe 20 years ago, where there were some Jewish guys involved in an organized crime outfit and the cover said

“La Kosher Nostra” lol!!!

Maybe some Brits looking for a safe space now that Britain is becoming part of the caliphate?

I hope President Trump will encourage all Christian immigration.

Before I cut the cable I watched a special on the mafia.
I think I remember hearing that Meyer Lansky merged the Jewish outfit in with Lucky Lucianos outfit when Lucky took over.
Seems Lansky saw the profit in working with the Sicilian mafia.
Lansky became one of the top guys under Lucky.

All I know about that Jewish business is they were well protected.
The last trip I made there we had gotten a message from dispatch to be on the lookout for a stolen trailer.
I got to the stop the evening before my appointment and parked in the alley as usual.
I looked at the trailer they had hooked to their truck and low and behold I had found our lost trailer.

They hadn’t even bothered to remove our company logo, just painted over it and painted their name above it.
Problem was our logo was red and showed through that single coat of white paint like a neon sign.
They even kept our trailer number on it!

I called dispatch and reported it to my dispatcher, the company owner got on the phone to verify the info.
He just laughed and then told me, very seriously, to forget I had even seen the trailer.
He said that if I said anything I would probably end up like Hoffa, missing forever.

“I hope President Trump will encourage all Christian immigration.”

Yes, hopefully he moves the Christians to the head of the line.

Great story :)

Actualy it was MEYER who wanted to give it the italian image.

Lucky wanted it to just be a business with no ethnic attachments, such as the drawing of blood, swearing the oath, and the other stuff they brought over from Italy.

Meyer was smart. Keeping it an italian thing gave cover to the Jewish gangsters.

But Jewish gangsters didn’t get their sons involved. They went straight to college.

Too many ITalian mobsters brought their sons into the trade, or the family. That was a shame.

I could tell you some stories about when i had my vending machine route. Forget about it. Always trouble with somebody.

And then the people you knew had to sit down with the people they knew and whatever was decided, that was law.

“bourbon distilleries in Tennessee and Kentucky”

Sales of Jack Daniels have overtaken Famous Grouse in the UK. Jack is seen as a good time party drink while scotch is viewed as stuffy.

I bet you could write a book!
If you dared.

I remember Lucky wanted to unite the families and run things like one big business.
He knew blood in the streets was bad for business.

There was a special about Lucky that was actually pretty evenhanded considering he was a guy who went from a street tough to the Boss of Bosses.

When WW2 started he was in prison in upstate NY.
The German U boats were sinking shipping right outside NY harbor.
The military tried to infiltrate the docks but got nowhere.

Finally an officer came up with the idea of appealing to Luciano.
The officer talked to Meyer who talked to Lucky.
Lucky said if he was transferred to a nicer prison he would talk to them.

Lucky gets sent to a better prison closer to NYC on condition he help.

One week later the sinkings dropped markedly.
Word got out that too many ships were still being sunk within sight of the harbor.
Lansky tells the dock workers if the sinkings continue “Lucky will not be happy.”
The sinkings dropped to just a few.

Strangely, Lucky Luciano was released from prison after the war and deported to Sicily.

Just strange enough to have happened just that way.

Have you been there? I know all about Morris Dees. We found nothing political or of a nature promoting a leftwing/socialist/commie agenda there, just examples of black and white Americans suffering and dying for the rights guaranteed them in our Constitution and reinforced in the civil rights legislation voted and adopted over the last 150 years. It’s sad that your political opinions possess you to the point that you cannot express empathy for your fellow Americans who have lived and died for those rights.

The upland Southern dialect is largely based on the Scottish lowlands dialect, first carried to Northern Ireland in the 17th Century, and to Appalachia and beyond in the 18th and early 19th Centuries. Andrew Jackson was a son of Scotch-Irish immigrants, as was John Calhoun. The Tidewater dialect, especially on some of the isolated islands on the North Carolina Outer Banks and the Chesapeake Bay islands belonging to Maryland and Virginia, has antecedents in the West Country of England. Additionally, the South (except Texas and New Orleans) never received the immigration waves from Germany, Scandinavia, the Catholic part of Ireland, and the Netherlands that the North experienced between 1820 and 1860. The 1880-1920 wave of Eastern and Southern Europeans also had only slight impact on the states of the former Confederacy. As a result, the South is the most British part of the United States, at least by ancestry.

Dees wears the civil rights cloak like a wolf dresses in a sheep skin. It is simply a window dressing. I recall him mentioning Freerepublic, by name, years ago as an example of the kind of hate speech that needed to be squelched.
