“I don’t think an independent candidate can win,” he said, adding that he’s not comfortable with the idea of rallying supporters around a campaign that’s sole objective is to stop another candidate — in this case, Donald Trump.

I continue to maintain we dodged a bullet with Romney losing. Yes, Obama is bad and all that. But this guy is so clueless it’s beyond fathoming.
Mittens is part of the GOPe. Go to the official GOP website, not one mention of Trump at all. 5 articles on Clinton, and you can buy Bush branded merchandise, as well as Reagan and even Ike! But not one Trump bumper sticker.

I will probably keep my R registration, just to have a voice in their primaries, but no money for the RNC after their shameful treatment of the best candidate they have had in a generation.

There is a state-by-state countdown of the last date an independent may file to appear on the ballot fr president.
For some key states like Texas, Illinois, Indiana, and North Carolina, that date is already past. Many more states will close to independents in the next 6-8 weeks. A campaign starting now couldn’t get enough votes to even be a spoiler.

The chusing of electors is a plenary power of State Legislatures. There are no rules and no laws that a State Legislature cannot change prior to November 8, and possibly prior to December 12.
I recently watched the documentary of Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, and one of the big problems was Romney taking advice from his family. The professionals in the campaign advised him to get tough on Obama, but his family advised him to try to show he is a nice guy.
