The AR platform is reliable, versatile, accurate and can be accessorized. Gotta love the AR, there are infinite amount of manufactures that caters to this market. You can trick out almost every section of your AR.

Here are some must-have AR accessories.

Grips Having a grip that feels comfortable can help improve your shooting and confidence. There is no shortage of great grips available and you can choose from an almost infinite array of styles.

Triggers Nowadays, its amazing you can buy custom triggers for the AR's which is better than shooting the stock M4 or M-16A2. Check out Timney and Rock River Arms. See the rest of AR's accessories here. What are some of your AR accessories?

Geissele. Nothing but. Best triggers out there, particularly the SSA-E.

All those accessories can mean the difference between 450rpm or over 700rpm. I’ve heard the baddest AR puts out over 700 rounds per minute (per MSM).

LOL, isnt it missing the Bowie knife sized bayo and on-rifle mags?? :) Oh and what about the uber-tactical ultra complex convertible 1/2/3 point sling? Guess while we’re on the subject wheres the flare/grenade launcher? I think its still missing a lot of THings. ;)

My friend says a hand grenade is FAR more effectve at close range. If you’re holding it and the pin is pulled, he told me, no one messes with you if they’re too close to run away before it blows. If you don’t drop it, they run away anyway. That’s what he told me...I don’t know.

I installed a hipertouch edt3 in my DPMS Recon and my group size shrank from ~1 moa to ~.5 moa at 100 yds. I just had an SLR sentry 7 adjustable gas block installed because the gun was way overgassed with the AAC SDN-6 suppressor. I’ll test that out tonight for the first time.

I agree with comfortable grips and a lighter trigger. It’s all the other stuff that people hang off the rifle that I think gets a bit silly. In fact, I would recommend that someone be able to shoot lights out with iron sights at 100 yards before they even think about mounting some kind of optic.

Exactly. I was writing a long post about the concept of “trick out” and all the excesses that could imply, but I figured I’d let this thread play itself out.

My standard setup is Magpul foregrip, Aimpoint Patrol PRO red dot, Vortex VMT flip-to-side 3X scope.

Also canted iron sights as a backup (for the very reliable PRO)

Anyone have any thoughts on AR 5.56 pistols?

I like to have pistols and carbines sharing common calibers (and mags if possible)

e.g. Glock 22 (40S&W) + Kel Tec Sub 2000 40S&W carbine using same mags as Glock 22

e.g. Beretta FS92 + Kel Tec Sub 2000 9mm carbine using same mags as the Beretta

Exactly.
I have four ARs and all of them are relatively minimalist compared to the range queens I’ve seen.

Stock
Grip
Rail
Optic
Light

...Or Beretta’s polymer carbine CX4 mated to the PX4s or 92/96.

In 5.56 pistols, there seem to be more choices every day. I own the KelTec PLR16. Haven’t fired it at a distance to truly check for accuracy but I do like it.

Were I in the market today (& assuming the money to play with) I might instead choose one of the buffer spring pistols for the Sig arm brace. Then again, I like the trim profile of a rifle round pistol shaped like a pistol-gripped shotgun, instead of the buffer tube sticking out there looking all ugly.

YMMV

Add a suppressor and a Form 1 M203 40mm DD....you just never know when you can acquire some and indirect fire is FUN.

I like the Swiss Army knife and key holder additions ... LOL. The 45 degree offset sights might do well on the average AR. Put an optic on top and flip ups at 45 degrees.
