The Senate voted 85-13 Tuesday to advance an annual defense policy bill that would require women to register for the draft. But that doesn’t mean the provision is guaranteed to become law.
Opponents of the draft measure will have an opportunity to kill it when the House and Senate reconcile the differences between their versions of the National Defense Authorization Act in conference.
An annual authorization bill, this year’s $602 billion National Defense Authorization Act sets the budget and outlines spending priorities for defense agencies. The White House has already threatened to veto the legislation.

No. What you see is guys who think the liberals need to admit what they are doing. If women can volunteer for combat, then they can be drafted for combat! Both are wrong, but at least let us be consistent. Maybe then people will think about what we are doing to our national defense...
I’m a board member of the Sergeant Bilko Society which is in England. Our president opened the Bilko Museum in Coventry and it’s wonderful. Phil Silvers’ family gave him an enormous amount of memorabilia. Our president sometimes dresses up as Bilko, lol! I like Doberman, too, although as a child I would burst into frightened tears when he came on the tv set! My favorite was always Colonel Hall.
Looking beyond the nose on my face, this is much more than Selective Service Registration. This is one one step towards the ultimate goal, mandatory government service for every citizen in times of peace and war. Once that happens, the government will have more control over our lives than we ever imagined.

Came across a tidbitoid that said the actor playing Col. Hall would forget his lines so the rest of the cast ad-libbed the follow ons.
Is that true?
His name was Paul Ford - a wonderful comic actor. He was always doing B’way shows when filming Bilko and I think being a slightly older gentleman, he sometimes went up on his lines out of exhaustion. It shows occasionally in a slight hesitation before he gets the words out.
Now Joe E. Ross, who played Sergeant Rupert Ritzik was notorious for not knowing his lines. His famous “ooh oohs!” were a direct result of him stalling for time until the words came to him.
Look for Bilko’s very occasional adlibs! We caught one last night - a basic complaint that one of the actors was always overacting.
The complete set has finally been released on DVD - produced by the Society.

A slightly different angle to consider:
The "draft" that young men are now registering for is nothing of the sort. For registrants to begin to be classified and involuntarily inducted would require new legislation, which under current circumstances is inconceivable.
By contrast, when I registered on my eighteenth birthday I was classified within seven days. That year, 296,000 men were involuntarily inducted. THAT is a draft.
Since the men who register now are in no actual danger of involuntary induction, but are at risk of penalty if they don't do it, it seems only fair that their female compatriots should undergo the same bureaucratic process (that is, if you think this absurd conservative virtue-signalling Federal jobs program masquerading as a draft should continue at all).
WHAT? What if in an emergency we need soldiers? In November 1941, a real draft passed the House by one vote. From a standing start, zero budget and zero employees, men were able to be classified and inducted within a month.
Of course, the chances that any female will ever be involuntarily inducted into the armed forces of the United States are zero, whatever laws are passed or not passed, and whatever Republicans say or don't say, or do or don't do. You know it, and I do, too.

We have sons too. We don’t hate women, but you have to stop hysterically claiming that we do like some liberal. American women have given up the right be treated as the fairer sex and something to be protected at all costs. A son and a daughter are equally valuable.
