The Senate voted 85-13 Tuesday to advance an annual defense policy bill that would require women to register for the draft. But that doesn’t mean the provision is guaranteed to become law.
Opponents of the draft measure will have an opportunity to kill it when the House and Senate reconcile the differences between their versions of the National Defense Authorization Act in conference.
An annual authorization bill, this year’s $602 billion National Defense Authorization Act sets the budget and outlines spending priorities for defense agencies. The White House has already threatened to veto the legislation.

But now I'm thinking it's a bad idea. Our culture and civilization are falling apart at the seams. How do we ever come back without women who have as their priority to raise and nurture families?
Young women form the foundation of the Progressive movement. (Hint: How many college boys become campus activists because the Prog organizations are where the easy P hangs out?) Give them the equality that Marx demands. Draft them.

The cold, hard truth is men and women are not equal. Each has their own place in the world and should concentrate on their strengths, not try to prove they can do what is physically impossible.

Ann, this is not an equality thing at all but is a READINESS thing. We need our military to be ready at all times to protect us. Studies have shown that all-male units simply perform better in almost every way than do the mixed units of males and females.
Yes, it is true we do not currently have a draft, which is not to say that we would not have one in the future. This requirement to have girls register is just social engineering of the worst kind. Everyone needs to tell their representatives to kick out this requirement to register our girls (DON’T DRAFT OUR DAUGHTERS!!!).
Again, this is on the basis of readiness, and is not at all an equality issue.
Sorry, but girls want EQUALITY, and this would be EQUALITY. I in NO WAY think women should be in combat, btw.

Women get preferential treatment under all US gov programs. the term “minority owned” applies to women no matter the race, but not men? I can tell you have never bid a gov’t contract.
Women are given preference in college applications. Women are given preference in gov’t loan applications. Women are given preference in federal job applications and promotions.
Women are given preference in Military promotions.
The list goes on and on.
How about make everything gender neutral and all success is based on ability and proven performance, NOT gender bias to make up for imagined slights in the past.

Let’s never open the door to drafting our daughters. I agree we do not want our daughters on the front lines in any war situations. The truth is that they would get hurt and die in a very unequal way.
This idea of registering our girls would be sacrificing them to the “god” of social engineering.
