A Nation of Laws—Sort Of
PJ Media ^ | 4-3-2016 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 05/06/2016 4:36:56 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

Any fair reading of State Department and general federal government laws regarding the use of classified information by federal employees makes it is clear that Hillary Clinton violated the law—both by improperly setting up her own private server, and then by sending information through it that was classified. And it is evident that Clinton went to such extraordinary lengths in order to mask her communications and shield them from the sort of Freedom of Information Act suits that now are plaguing her—and that she arbitrarily decided which of her private server emails were public and which private, and then simply destroyed thousands of them without audit.

If she is not indicted by the Obama administration for violations of federal laws or conspiracy to obstruct justice, in the future it will be almost impossible to prosecute successfully any federal employee for violating government protocols about the handling of classified information. If Clinton avoids indictment, it will make a mockery of the Obama Justice Department that sought to prosecute Gen. David Petraeus for showing his personal journals, which contained classified information, to his biographer and mistress Paula Broadwell. ......

The answer is that this is now a country, after all, that jails a video-maker on a trumped-up probation charge to cover up false talking points about a supposed riot of aggrieved Muslims who ad hoc showed up to kill four Americans. And it jailed Dinesh D’Souza, another video-maker, on a rather minor campaign money-raising infraction.

Federal immigration law simply no longer exists—(snip) President Obama himself, prior to his reelection bid, warned immigration activists that to suspend enforcement of federal law was the act of a king, not a president—and then got reelected and committed the very monarchial sins that he warned about.

Socialists, like all other monopolists, desire to make the law their own weapon. And when once the law is on the side of socialism, how can it be used against socialism? For when plunder is abetted by the law, it does not fear your courts, your gendarmes, and your prisons. Rather, it may call upon them for help.

“The Law” - Frederic Bastiat

Wake up and smell the socialists, Victor. They stink. What’s your vector?

“If she is not indicted by the Obama administration for violations of federal laws or conspiracy to obstruct justice...”

Then, “O” is an accomplice. He is complicit as well!!

Anyone remember Martha Stewart?

IIRC she served jail time for just one lie to the Feds about an email or something, didn’t she?

You mean the JD that armed Mexican Drug cartels with military grade weaponry, and the CIC that obstructed justice with executive orders?

Yeah, this'll do it.

The FBI is working hard on the investigation. We are understandably impatient. But it will take a great deal of time and effort to build a case for her innocence.

Thanks for starting the thread.

What is sad is that anyone who follows this story can easily see that two things are very likely here, and the combination of them is very bad for this country:

1.) Hillary Clinton is likely going to go scot-free, even though it is obvious she purposely circumvented the very specific security regulations with intent, regulations that have very specific and clear penalties for violation.

2.) Any other person, not Hillary Clinton, would be fired and prosecuted for these exact same violations, and it would not even be a question.

The fact (and it is a fact) that we have “laws” that are applied one way if you are one person, and ignored completely if you are someone else, says that we are no longer a nation of laws.

And this situation of enforcing it here, and not there, is not limited to this situation. Immigration laws, drug laws, any number of laws are approached in this seemingly (but not) arbitrary way.

And Hillary Clinton is a leading candidate for the Presidency.

It is appalling.

She will be indicted.

If that were a true statement, Trump and Bernie would not have the appeal they have. Voters are rejecting the establishment in large part because of the rampant insider corruption. Anyone who has ever held a clearance knows that Hillary is guilty of crimes that would send an ordinary person to prison. But she's a Clinton, so what does her obvious guilt have to do with whether she will be indicted?

If former President George W. Bush were shaking down foreign interests and Wall Street investors to donate to a “Bush Initiative”—while Jeb Bush as secretary of State was massaging U.S. foreign policy on the basis of who gave or did not give to his family’s’ foundation—both Bushes, without a party membership button, would be indicted for racketeering. Certainly, the New York Times would be calling for a special prosecutor.

The end of constitutional America comes not loudly and suddenly with jackboots and brown-shirt thugs, but more insidiously with soft-spoken totalitarians and their “noble” appeals to advancing fairness, diversity, and equality—while identifying as enemies of the people any who commit thought crimes and thus as obstructionists deserve exactly what they get.

It's over. Until we fight the next civil war and re-establish The Constitution.

There isn’t a noble institution or first principle, such as equality before the law, that the Left won’t soil.

If The Beast walks, I’ll never again have the fortitude to sit on a jury and find anyone guilty of anything.

There is the one side of it which is the selective prosecution of laws. The other side of it is also referenced by VDH in his excellent opinion piece:

"...There also is no longer a 1st Amendment on campuses or in many workplaces. Try offering a public lecture on the misguided nature of Black Lives Matter, expressing doubts about the theory of man-caused, radical global warming that might be averted by huge government programs and investment, or doubting the wisdom of traditional marriage for gay couples. It is likely that the lecture would be stormed, and the speaker shouted down—as if someone were defending the Versailles Treaty in Munich during the late 1920s, or praising Trotsky in Moscow around 1927..."

There is a thread on Free Republic titled "Angry SJW Demands Student Journalist Be Punished for Filming #Trigglypuff"

In summary, it happened at UMASS Amherst (a place I detest as a bastion of Political Correctness) where the Young Republicans Club organized a panel discussion to analyze the suppression of free speech on campuses via political correctness and other liberal mechanisms.

Interestingly enough, the panel was composed of a young homosexual man, an established feminist, and Stephen Crowder, known to all of us on FR (He is a Freeper). These three panelists would, under normal circumstances, be at each other's political throats. But they all had the same bone to pick with political correctness, and thus it was apparent, they were allies in this fight.

So when they got up on stage, the Feminist was being shouted down by the Social Justice PC people (I was puzzled by this, under normal circumstances, she would likely have been on their side) but they wouldn't let her say her introductory opening piece, interrupting her, making it nearly impossible for her to speak.

Now, I am as anti-feminist as they come (not anti-women, mind you) but I wanted to hear what she had to say, and began getting increasingly irritated with the interruptions, as was the entire panel.

When Stephen Crowder got up there, he BLASTED them with full broadsides of nine 16 inch shells of un-Politicially Correct high explosive, non-stop barrages, driving them Social Justice Warrior morons into higher and higher levels of distress, until this woman shown below had a complete melt down and temper tantrum. (Her SJW name is apparently Trigglypuff...a more diseased and mentally ill example of liberalism you will not find.) The whole thing has turned into another Internet meme:

The video of the entire panel discussion may be found here (Milo Yiannopoulos, Steven Crowder and Christina Hoff Sommers at Mass and if you don't want to watch the whole thing, you can fast forward to about the 15 min mark, where you will see the tail end of the feminist being interrupted, and Stephen Crowder (God bless him) gets on his feet and goes to work!

I grinned and laughed the entire time.

I watched it all! You could tell the Amherst kids were confused at being put-down by a conservative homosexual.

With apologies to Dean Wormer, someone needs to inform that girl that being fat, angry, ugly, and stupid is no way to go through life.

Yes, I'm very well aware of the #Trigglypuff incident.

I had referenced in the past an excellent article, The New Totalitarians Are Here (by Tom Nichols) several times. I know it is just preaching to the choir here, but we should introduce it to those people not immersed in politics/current events like we are.
