Control language and you control thought. That is why progressives have been erasing our language one word at a time, boxing us into an ever smaller corner of what they decide should be permissible. The latest word to be banished is Eskimo. The taxpayer-funded thought police at NPR explain that although the word comes from the Ojibwe language, it has a controversial history. That is, it could be tainted with Western culture:
-People in many parts of the Arctic consider Eskimo a derogatory term because it was widely used by racist, non-native colonizers.-
Anything used by the colonizers who brought them stoves, snowmobiles, medicine, vodka, et cetera must be bad.
-Many people also thought it meant eater of raw meat, which connoted barbarism and violence. Although the words exact etymology is unclear, mid-century anthropologists suggested that the word came from the Latin word excommunicati, meaning the excommunicated ones, because the native people of the Canadian Arctic were not Christian.-
Apparently no one was buying this, so they came up with a new theory:
-According to the Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, linguists believe the word Eskimo actually came from the French word esquimaux, meaning one who nets snowshoes.-
If its French, the word definitely has to go.
-The words racist history means most people in Canada and Greenland still prefer other terms. The most widespread is Inuit, which means simply, people. The singular, which means person, is Inuk.
Of course, as with so many words sullied by the crimes of colonialism, not everyone agrees on what to do with Eskimo. Many Native Alaskans still refer to themselves as Eskimos, in part because the word Inuit isnt part of the Yupik languages of Alaska and Siberia.
But unless youre native to the circumpolar region, the short answer is: You probably shouldnt use the word Eskimo.-
Only Eskimos should be allowed to say Eskimo.
Bottom line: Westerners call Eskimos Eskimos, therefore they should not be called Eskimos. Make sure to update your Newspeak dictionary, because in no time people will start losing jobs or getting expelled from college for using the totally innocuous word.
They are Alaskan-Americans
LOL - I saw what you did there!
As far as I’ve been able to find, ALL local stores stopped carrying these last year:

Lets rub noses like the ........?
It took them this long?
Borealis: of the north.
Borealiens: persons of the north.

The problem is that there is no official notice that a word has been designated racist. In order for the new fascist government to begin prosecution proceedings, there needs to be posted on a government website a full, up to date and accurate list of words that are grounds for prosecution, along with the groups that are exempt from prosecution.
Then all we law-abiding citizens can regularly consult the list and adjust our speech and thoughts accordingly.

“That is why progressives have been erasing our language one word at a time, boxing us into an ever smaller corner of what they decide should be permissible.”
Progressives are only partly to blame. The rest of the blame should be assigned to those who comply with their nonsense.
As a child I partook of many of their pies that you feature in image number one. If only I knew how politically incorrect I was as a child enjoying Felix the Cat cartoons featuring Vavoom!
I was at a party probably over 20 years ago and there was a white guy there that was offended by any white person who rapped and thought it should be outlawed.
Actually there’s nothing “is now” about it. Been that way for decades. Of course being a group that don’t enter into conversation much most folks haven’t found out.
America was paradise when I was a kid!
For several decades, official FedGovCan speak has referred to ‘Eskimos’ as ‘Inuit’ and those in the Western part of Canada’s North apparently refer to themselves as ‘Inuvialuit’. Expect that ‘PC speak’ to follow within FedGovUS.
If I had have been smart 30-40 years ago, I would have started a company that would lobby for name changes related the ‘First Nations’ PC ‘industry’, then do the printing of new, PC letterhead and the production of signs with the new PC signs for all these new names. I could have been a wealthy man by now.
When I was a kid, the ‘Native’ (now known as ‘First Nation’, formerly known as ‘Indian’) ‘reserve’ (aka ‘reservation’ in the US) that lies near Cornwall, ON and borders NY State and the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec was called ‘Caughnawaga’ (pronounced ‘Cog-na-wah-ga’). It then became known as ‘Kahnawake’ (pronounced as ‘Can-a-wah-kee’). This is certainly not the only example. Another example, one of many, is the ‘Siksika’ reserve (Formerly known as the ‘Blackfoot’ reserve).
Of course the PC ‘industry’ is not limited to those that live on ‘reserves’. Driving a school bus, my students are LABELED by the Board of Education as ‘complex needs’ students. Previously, these kids were labeled ‘special needs’ and when I was a kid, they were labeled ‘special education’ students. When I was a kid, there were far fewer students who fit that ‘category’. Of course, it is in the interests of the socialists to ‘label’ everyone, so they can better control them.
As long as America is a free society...this infringement on the First Amendment deserves the trash basket.
In Canada people who are neither Inuit or Metis are called by their tribal affiliation, Aboriginal Canadians, or a First Nations member. In Canada the term Eskimo was falling out of favor 50 years ago.
I don't remember meeting you there. :^)
Microagression by the boxfull.
