Rush Limbaugh Has Completely Lost His Way

Probably no one has earned more leeway from conservative voters and pundits than Rush Limbaugh. Rush has been a tireless force for the conservative movement for decades, and he probably is responsible for a whole lot of conservative Republicans who are currently in office. But thankfulness for past service only goes so far, and Rush’s program yesterday officially crossed the line.

When I think about Rush’s last year or so on air, I’m reminded of Marshall Phillipe Petain, one of the most intriguing figures of the twentieth century. Without Petain, the French might not have prevailed over the Germans at Verdun, and thus might have lost World War I. But for as much thanks as France owed Petain for his service in World War I, the full historical reckoning for Petain must acknowledge that Petain was a Nazi collaborator, the leader of Vichy France, and a totalitarian dictator. Petain’s history is complicated, and to tell the whole tale honestly requires acknowledging both the good and the bad.

So it is with Rush. For all he has done, and for all we should be thankful for, it is hard to deny that Donald Trump has brought conservatism to a critical moment. From this moment forward, it will either resemble the vision Rush has preached for thirty years, or it will not. It will either move forward as a recognizable force, or it will be destroyed with Trump in a historic landslide election.

Streamling the IRS, Dept. of Education, and the EPA is a commitment to smaller government. These are Trump’s goals - which are very conservative. I’ve only heard Cruz talk about doing away with the IRS - which is an impossibility. The tax codes needs refined, but, someone has to collect taxes - so, Cruz’s position is just blather.

I agree. If anything, freerepublic has lost it’s way.

NOT trying to start a fight, but what do you mean by that? In my opinion, SJW’s are the rudest and craziest members of the liberal arm of the Democratic Party

Basically that they are intolerant of diverging opinions and totalitarian in nature. You can see this with the black lists they create, trying to ruin people's careers, how Cruzers and the Cruz campaign went after Phyllis's Eagles Forum after she endorsed Trump, or how Cruz's delegates are mocking people openly in the conventions and isolating Trump supporters, and how even FR Cruzers were demanding mass-zotting of Trump supporters and created anti-Free Republic websites when Jim refused their demands. We see it over and over again: the Cruzers attack and attack and attack anyone who doesn't side with them, and are constantly busy in their attempts to silence or marginalize their opponents.

Every four years, or over some hotly contested Republican race, folks get their undies all bunched up because Rush doesn’t outright declare for their person of choice. He has always been the same and it’s just that people get mad he isn’t totally on their team bandwagon. He has never endorsed. It’s silly and laughable to read the same old tired stories (especially from the out of touch GOPe monikers) recycled over the decades.

Rush is Rush. He’s not going to be a cheerleader for anything other than beating Democrats - as he has done for so many years.

if the most important thing to you is to destroy the elites

Always an exciting prospect. Usually does not end well. Wait. What?

Because Trump?

Never mind.

Cruzers actually think Rush is in the tank for Trump

That’s delusional

A lot of us have come to this conclusion months ago. For what ever reason Rush has definitely jumped the shark.

...

Many years ago, when Rush had a TV show he repeatedly said he was just an entertainer (and a very good one). Anyone who cared to notice could see that he didn’t live as a Conservative outside the studio. I’ve been warning about him for years on FR.

Cruzers actually think Rush is in the tank for Trump.

Rush as usual tries not to take sides in primaries. He also has tried to keep his sanity in the face of attacks like this one. He is still just as conservative as ever, he just isn't paranoid about it, which alienates the true believers.

Riiiight. For months it’s been all about Trumpkins and Trumpanzees and Trumpettes and Trumpons, yet somehow I’m causing us to be doomed.

We’re now plagued with Cruz supporters in drag, pretending to be ‘concerned’ about people being too mean to the arrogant and nasty Cruzlims. Cry me a river.

The ones that have jumped the shark are the devout Cruzers and Trumpsters in freerepublic.

Rush is still sane about the whole thing.

Streamling the IRS, Dept. of Education, and the EPA is a commitment to smaller government.

The other things that he promised government backing of (healthcare in particular) means bigger government. He is also expansive on permissible uses eminent domain, and thinks that the government can tell phone makers to decode anything the government wants. The other side of big government is not just more efficient government, or cheaper government, but a government that is LESS involved in our lives. I believe that he came out against Common Core, so that is good. Cruz has had that a major theme for longer, but I do imagine that Trump doesn't mind making enemies with the EPZ, that's cool too. All of it, though, is just a laundry list, with no underlying principle on which one can build a lasting movement. That may not be Trump's role. It is not a bad thing that Cruz supporters want a more substantial anchor, ideologically.

I love Rush but I have taken a temporary break from listening the past week or so. He will be back on courses as soon as we have a nominee and he can focus on the general election.

I’d like to imagine Rush is still on top of things, as someone who listened to him for decades, but ranting for a half-hour last week because of some imagined “dirty trick” because Cruz’s mike went out was WAY over the top.

He tries to hide it, but I think he’s got full blown DTS.

All this hostility towards Trump started with the Michelle Field hoax.. Maybe Rush and Levin were anti-Trump at the start and were just looking for an excuse to turn full anti-trump. This was the incident that turned me off Cruz and Levin. I could not understand why they sided with Michelle Fields

They’ll be meeting in a closet soon, there’s not that many of them. They pick there spots though, when 640 can steal 14 delegates.

Rush HAS and will always BE a Political Animal first.

That is, he is REPUBLICAN first and a Conservative second.

That is why he’s been backing the “establishment” no matter what recently.

You guys continually post lies. I used to think that anyway. Then I just realized that all the Cruzlims are low-information. Maybe they should watch something else other than Al Cruzeera.
