Supreme Court Refuses to Hear Guns on Post Office Property Case
Gun Watch ^ | 22 March, 2016 | Dean Weingarten

The U.S. Supreme Court has decided not to hear the appeal from the 10th Circuit of Bonidy v. United States Post Office.  The case is one in which Tab Bonidy, a Colorado citizen with a concealed carry permit sued the Post Office for infinging the Second Amendment by declaring it a crime for him to carry on Post Office property, including Post Office parking lots.  From postalnews.com:

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court won’t hear a dispute over a U.S. Postal Service regulation that bans guns from post office property and adjacent parking lots.
It is easy to under stand why Second Amendment supporters on the Court would not want to hear this case at this time.  Antonin Scalia is dead.  There are now only 3 justices on the Court who can reasonably be counted on to uphold the Second Amendment.  They do not want to hear a Second Amendment case that could be used to gut the Amendment.

We do not know who voted to hear the case or not.  But I am not surprised that the Court decided not to hear this case.

The next President, if Republican, should be able to change this, and eliminate the ban on firearms in the public areas of Post Offices.

They need to make sure that the only way that guns get into a Post Office is through the back door by Postal Workers. Is it not ironic that the magnetometers were only at the front doors?

Great lawsuit idea. Should NOT be a prohibition for concealed carriers to carry on Postal Service property OR in the parking lot. Exactly right.

So what was the 10th Circuit ruling that now stands? (No time to read the article)

Should not be a prohibition for anyone to lawfully carry.

The permit is becoming a defacto license to own a firearm.

Bump for that, and to check later.

The 10th Circuit ruled that even the post office parking lots were “sensitive” locations where the government could ban the exercise of the Second Amendment.

It is not a coincidence that “going postal” has become part of the linguistic lexicon.

I did not know it was illegal to carry into a PO building and carry into them all the time concealed. I have read the Texas Penal code over and over and no where have I found restricting it. It is a public building.

The only one that I do not carry into is the one in Victoria, TX which has a Federal/District Court room upstairs which makes it off limits according to Texas law.

They have to be posted with signs at the entrances, for it to be illegal.

So, if the ones that you frequent have not posted signs, you should be ok.

Unenforcble regulation, like so many. They aren’t going to. Stall search points, x-ray machines, etc at every PO entrance.

You won’t find it in the TX laws. It is a federal law. If you ever get caught you will never own a gun again (legally) for the rest of your life.

You've got to be kidding. Cruz is ineligible. Trump is an ultra liberal who cares nothing about the 2nd, and you think he'd pick a protector of the 2nd?

You liberals have to stop watching Trump's mouth, and take a look at his past actions.

You are committing a Federal felony and will surrender your right to own a firearm or vote, for ever, if caught. PO's in Texas are not on Texas land, they are on Federal land.

SCOTUS has declined to hear many important 2A cases even while Scalia was alive. They are letting Heller/McDonald be eviscerated by lower courts and doing nothing about it. One of the original Heller 5 is dead and one or more has turned.

I'm disgusted with the whole judicial system top to bottom because it's obvious many "judges" are just politicians with robes, deciding cases based on emotion, (perceived) public sentiment, "social justice" nonsense, peer pressure, bribes or other favors. The future of the 2A seems bleak, especially to those of us living in states that actively subvert the 2A.

I understand your disgust, but it was worse in years past. For 75 years, the Supreme Court refused to hear *any* Second Amendment cases, and let stand dozens of appeals court cases that were wrong on their face.

So, take heart, and stay in the fight. We have won important victories.

We now have 9 Constitutional carry states. In 2002, there was one.
