There are actually MORE whites who understand what it’s like to be poor than there are the number of blacks who understand what it’s like to be a slave or to be subjugated.

Maybe he's right: I grew up poor, but not in the moral, cultural, or spiritual sense. My grandparents were subsistence farmers who grew their own food, made a lot of their own clothes, and bought very little. Grandma washed the clothes in the basement and hung them on the line to dry. We certainly never had any money, and only one primer-colored pick-up truck for those trips to town for staples like oatmeal, coffee, and sugar.

But we had a work ethic, a schedule, and the house was always clean and tidy. The living room was full of books. At night we played cards or board games, or sometimes Grandpa played the violin. If the electricity went out, we lit the kerosene lamps.

But life was quiet, safe, clean, and orderly. I had fresh air, and the woods behind the house to play in. Not something you find in certain other cultures. So basically, white culture can take the edge off of poverty by infusing it with some dignity.

But here's the thing: are we now admitting that work, cleanliness, self-control, and reading are specific to white culture? Because it doesn't have to be that way.

I think the SJW thing is “fashionable”. Practitioners seem to be almost exclusively the pretty girls (and hopeful hangers on) from affluent homes. This isn’t poor inner-city people doing this, because they don’t run in those circles. From what I’ve seen this is basically an innovation of “moral highground” for the mean girl types.

The Sanders campaign will almost certainly be put down by Clinton. What do you suppose that will do to the PC thing?

What an idiot. I grew up dirt poor, more so than anyone living in a ghetto today with their flat screens, cell phones and Air Jordans. There were many weeks when there was just nothing to eat at the end of the week until my father cam home with his paycheck. My parents always managed to make do, although it was a constant struggle. My father managed to learn a trade and things were better as I entered middle school but there was never a time when we were 'comfortable'.

Bernie Sanders is a bigoted a$$hole.

The Marxist has only known privilege, so much so that he had to assuage his white guilt by prominently marching alongside other rich white college kids in Chicago to support the blacks.

He was born and grew up in a middle-to-upper-middle class Jewish neighborhood in New York City. His family abandoned the area when blacks and then Latinos moved in - i.e., white flight.

He then got into politics and did only occasional real work as a carpenter, which he quickly abandoned as activist and political money began lining his nest.

So no, this Communist has not really ever held down a steady job, and yet has done well enough to be more rich than all of the hardworking parents of his brain-damaged followers.

Great story. Thanks for sharing. My Mom and Dad lived through the Great Depression, so they learned to live a good life without the frills. As a society, we're supposed to praise progress, but for everything gained, something is lost. The internet gave us national and international communities, but we don't know our neighbor next door.
