What Trump Just Said About The LGBT Community Will Make Conservatives Go Crazy (VIDEO)
Addicting Info ^ | February 5, 2016

In a stunning reversal, Donald Trump said that he will strengthen the rights of the LGBT community and bring people together. His new stance comes just days after he said that as president, he would “strongly consider” overturning Obergefell vs Hodges, the Supreme Court decision that found that same-sex couples have a legal and constitutional right to marry.

“I’m a lesbian, we’ve had some great progress for the gay and lesbian community,” NECN reporter Sue O’Connell told Trump. When President Trump is in office, can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?” Here is Trump’s response:

“Well, you can. We’re going to bring people together, and that’s your thing, and other people have their thing. We have to bring all people together and if we don’t we’re not going to have a country anymore.”

Now that’s one big flip-flop because in addition to Trump saying he would appoint judges to overturn Obergefell vs Hodges, he has stated in the past time and time again that he only supports marriage between a man and a woman. He has said:

“I’m not in favor of gay marriage. I don’t feel right about marriage equality.”

Trump has even gone as far as to compare same-sex relationships to choosing the wrong kind of golf putter! He said:

“It’s like in golf. A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive. It’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”

In trying to rationalize the irrational, it’s most likely that Trump is pandering to New Hampshire voters for the primary, 67% of whom support gay marriage.

Trump merely seems to be saying he wants to "bring the country together". Does he say something more specific?

It's right there:

"Can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?" Here is Trump's response:

"Well, you can."

Still support both Cruz and Trump. You guys just make sure one of their names is on the General Election ballot at the top.

Me too zero. But I gotta tell ya, this campaign is so much fun but coming here to FR is becoming more and more painful.

I'm having more giggles going to DU, and while I've been barred from posting I can still read and laugh at all of the consternation or is it constipation.

Trump gave a very good answer. I am beginning to see how the self-proclaimed 'true Christians' and Cruz supporters are anything but - are we to be like Muslims and stone homosexuals. Just what is your stance against bringing folks together?

Trump has clearly stated he disagreed with the Supreme Court decision, but felt it should be up to the states. At any rate, being married before God is the only true marriage, not a piece of paper from the government. Then again, I am not surprised. Anything other than some strict dogma gets bashed around here by the severe Cruz fans.

Yeah it's more nothing burger from the TDS crowd.

Funny, the Trump crowd want to crucify Cruz for accepting donations from a gay donor, even though Cruz is very public in in opposition to SSM and did not change that position even when dealing with the donor; but Trump saying he would work for "equality" for homosexuals is a nothing burger...

You have no basis in fact for that statement. As others have said, Cruz has consistently held this to be a states rights issue, not federal, and that Obergfell need not be accepted as the last word on the subject, whereas Trump will not fight it. Cruz is more concerned about religious liberty, and that is federal. Besides, Trump backing gays against Christians is not new, per interview he did with gay rag Advocate back in 2000. Conservatives pinning their hopes on Trump are going to be sorely disappointed a few years into his admin. Mark it down; you can take it to the bank.

Peace,

SR

It’s a non-answer. So, go dig up an eminent domain post, illegal employed by trump post, Trump was married more than once post... or how about Trump loves Obamacare post. Wash, rinse and repeat. Go scrounge like a little doggy.

Trump tells you clowns he wants traditional marriage and says he knows or has friends in NY who happen to be gay. I suppose he has to ridicule gays with a passion.

And we have this recently from Trump:

"Donald Trump Says He Wants Supreme Court To Overturn Same-Sex Marriage"

What exactly did you mean by deflection then, if not avoiding answering the question?

Exactly?

Well, I approximately meant that the statement/question was crafted to push DT into giving an answer he would regret or not be able to defend later.

He avoided stepping in a big pile of it without lying or changing his tune from what he has been saying about such matters.

Looks like he's a fast learner, and is becoming a politician like Rubio and Cruz.

The only people surprised would be those who for some reason think Trump is a conservative.

What is he supposed to say? I hate gays and hope you burn in hell????

Cruz doesn’t even say that, sheesh.

Exactly. Meanwhile, CRuzTweetGate just accepts $$ from the gays, in their apartment where a young gay man had recently been found dead, without batting a downturned eye.

As a Christian conservative, as are you, I pin my hopes on no politician. Not Donald Trump. Not Ted Cruz. Not whoever else you might name.

I don’t think you’d find anything Trump does odd even if his next wife were a dude.

Of course, this is THE perfect example of why Jimmy Carter just endorsed Trump...Carter claimed that Trump was "malleable"...and Cruz wasn't!

So, this is what we can expect from Trump as he approaches each primary: He will put his political finger in the regional wind...for example, this week it's New England.

He will "weigh" New England cultural values...and that will send him to positions & postures where he can "outliberal" even some Dem pols!

Then, as soon as NH is out of the way, he will prolly run right w/more conservative states waiting in the wings!

Hmmm... LGBT says they want special treatment whereas Trump responds with just the opposite. He says he’s for bringing unity back to the country rather than have the US continue to devolve into special interest groups. I guess it depends on what you believe is best - to continue to treat LGBT as a special interest, which is what they want, or to tell them we’re turning back the clock to the way it was.

Is “becoming a politician” a good thing or a bad thing, in your mind?

In my mind, I'm gone to Carolina.

What do you think?

It IS a sad awakening to see how far some people can go into the garbage bin. No wonder this country is in the state it is.
