In a stunning reversal, Donald Trump said that he will strengthen the rights of the LGBT community and bring people together. His new stance comes just days after he said that as president, he would “strongly consider” overturning Obergefell vs Hodges, the Supreme Court decision that found that same-sex couples have a legal and constitutional right to marry.
“I’m a lesbian, we’ve had some great progress for the gay and lesbian community,” NECN reporter Sue O’Connell told Trump. When President Trump is in office, can we look for more forward motion on equality for gays and lesbians?” Here is Trump’s response:
“Well, you can. We’re going to bring people together, and that’s your thing, and other people have their thing. We have to bring all people together and if we don’t we’re not going to have a country anymore.”
Now that’s one big flip-flop because in addition to Trump saying he would appoint judges to overturn Obergefell vs Hodges, he has stated in the past time and time again that he only supports marriage between a man and a woman. He has said:
“I’m not in favor of gay marriage. I don’t feel right about marriage equality.”
Trump has even gone as far as to compare same-sex relationships to choosing the wrong kind of golf putter! He said:
“It’s like in golf. A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive. It’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”
In trying to rationalize the irrational, it’s most likely that Trump is pandering to New Hampshire voters for the primary, 67% of whom support gay marriage.

NY Values
Donald, Donald he’s our man,
If he can’t out-gay you,
No one can!
Yeah, that explains why he doesn’t attack the switch hitter, Marco.
No surprise to me. And anyone out there, please save me the ‘He`s just playing the system off.’ crap.
no surprise - exactly. I wouldn’t have expected any thing else. It is the art of the deal...
I did not click on the article, but according to what was posted above, Trump merely seems to be saying he wants to “bring the country together”. Does he say something more specific?
You can take the man out of New York, but you can’t take the New Yorker out of the man.
Can’t wait to hear the Trump supporters defend gay marriage just as they have already done with Kelo and funding Planned Parenthood.
The worst thing trump could do is start pandering to people ala DC whore insider politicians. I’ve seen him recently claim he didn’t want to stray over into the politically incorrect side when addressing someone’s behavior or their choice (that he didn’t want to use a politically incorrect term).
I believe that comment was the tipping point for Trump.
I thought to myself - this whole time you’ve been politically incorrect and blunt, saying the things everyone else is thinking but not saying because they are too PC, now you go all in PC shortly after you said you wouldn’t.
This is aggravating hearing things like this from Trump. That he would turn into the very thing he was running against so quickly.
Perhaps the bloom has fallen off?
This is the complete video from the news site.
News site doesn’t even mention the question...
Just says:
Trump Wants to ‘Work on the Heroin Problem’ in N.H.

And socialized healthcare!
Yeah it’s more nothing burger from the TDS crowd.
What is he supposed to say? I hate gays and hope you burn in hell????
Cruz doesn’t even say that, sheesh.
“You can take the man out of New York, but you canât take the New Yorker out of the man.”
But a Texan from Canada can raise money from rich gay people.
No, it`s the bull sh!t of the man.
That’s a good point.
WHERE is Cruz’s statement on this, anyway?
That would theoretically be possible... but where did the famous Trump "forget the nuance and blast stupid questions (and the questioner)" go?
He's willing to smack down those who say that "illegal immigrants are the backbone of our country", and he apparently prides himself on being unafraid to call out what he regards as nonsense... and then... this?
It does give the lingering impression that he's not really invested in a fight against the LGBT agenda. (That, or he only "smacks down" people if he gets up on the wrong side of the bed.)
