Can NK actually launch something HIGHER than the ISS? Then they can’t hit that zone. Then of course there’s the fact that at those kind of ranges, plus having to cut through so much of the ionosphere, EMP will lose most of its effectiveness. The EMP threat is grossly overblown, at best it’s an additional damage circle for low altitude explosions, the super bomb 300 miles up is impractical and will functionally render said bomb useless.

“The booster has been accomplished with the help of the Iranians. “

It’s the other way around. The North Koreans helped the Iranians with their boosters. It’s true they are cooperating on boosters and nukes.

Well I’d be all scared except when the Norks blow off a rocket they have no earthly clue where it will land. Their delivery system is on a par with Jarts.

“Bunch of fearmongering nonsense.”

I guess you have not studied the design and use of these weapons. This threat is VERY real. The pity is, it would only cost $6-12 billion to HARDEN our infrastructure so as to make it impossible for the NORKS to attack. But Obama WON’T do it.

Matt has said that when the SHTF we won’t be just dropping back to the 1700’s (or whatever years he said)

Don't know, but the Russians and Chinese certainly can, along with many others. And it's only a matter of time before NK can - IF they can't now.

I don't think there's any excuse for not hardening our power grid, if not most of our other infrastructures such as anything, or any vulnerable system, key to the well being of the nation.

Problem is, people with the sophistication to launch such an EMP know how to optimize the damage to the US other than that which has been presented.

For those of you freaked out by the threat of an EMP should do some independent research. The amount of good information out there is amazing. After reading a lot of it, you will sleep well at night. While it could be bad in areas, it is not even close to the end of the world.

They know that to maximize the damage you absolutely positively do NOT waste a perfectly fine sizable nuke 300 miles above the planet. The EMP “threat” is a lie. Period. Pure and simple. Foisted on us every 6 months by fear mongers.

No blast damage from a 300 mile altitude detonation.....

EMP is real, but how intense and how damaging is not known....

Any PV solar panel in line of sight of an EMP detonation will be totally fried.

Gross under estimation. It’s Pry’s number, but it’s wrong.

We’ve got some pretty good ability to estimate. We know how electronic waves fade over distance, we know how the atmosphere chews them up, and we know about the EMP strength of various sized bombs. We know enough to have never dedicated a serious chunk of our arsenal to be used that way, given that there was a time when we were seriously looking for ways to kill the people and leave the buildings if EMP was that cool we’d have put it in our plans.

No it isn’t a lie. It’s proven physics. What is unknown is to what extent it will impact modern infrastructure and electronics. There will be some significant impact, how bad, and how difficult to recover from is simply not known.

Even despite all of the nuclear tests conducted within CONUS, we never saw any significant EMP effects. I believe that all of this is nothing more than Alex Jones-style hysteria.

We have many threats, but North Korea taking out our power grid with a magic weapon is not one of them.

Having read much of his work, I'd say Matt has good working knowledge of where such an event might leave us on the technological scale, should such an event occur.

I don't even want to think about what things would be like here in America, even after only a few days, without just in time delivery of the vital goods/services we ALL depend upon in our everyday lives.

Another good read, as well as Matt's work, is One Second After by William R. Forstchen.
