They can’t find American teachers to teach math and science in rural areas for $30,000.

The answer - import foriegners.

Will foreign teachers subscribe to the PC culture that keeps ‘inner city” schools dysfunctional warehouses?

Most of the public schools in Mississippi are Black. They ran off most of the whites a generation or two ago.

That being said, I found it interesting that they are hiring speech pathologists that can’t speak American English, much less the dialects spoken in the lower South.

As someone that taught in Mississippi for 4 years, I can safely say that it’s not the kids chasing the native teachers to other places, it’s the pay and the administration.

Move two states west to Texas and those two problems pretty much disappear.

“English is taught from 1st grade in the Philippines.”

Ironically enough, I have been to 36 countries in every continent except antarctica, and not the touristy ones. I have yet to go to a country where English was not at least partially understood (at least in the major cities), (except America)

a few years ago the school district in San Bernardino hired 75 Filipino teachers. Ignorant parents called for a meeting. Two of the teachers got up and did a presentation in English and everyone went home with their tails between their legs. My wife went 1-BA in the Philippines, all in English.

My Niece is a School Teacher in MS.

She Teaches at a Private School, grades 6 though 8.

The pay isn’t great, but she loves it. From the time she was five years old, she wanted to be a Teacher.

She is close to completing her Masters, so I’m not sure what she will do after that.

Nobody we know there sends their Kids to Public School.

When the schools in the Delta, on both sides of the river, were finally integrated in the late 1960s a private academy was started in every county. Now the public schools are mostly black and a few poor whites who talk black. Probably because that’s the only way to survive.

Several schools in Arkansas have been taken over by the state. The people running them was stealing them blind. One principle was paying his mistress 6 figures for a non existent job. She actually lived in another state.

That is 451 jobs that Americans don’t have.

I guess it’s not a problem since we have full employment and no poverty. Geeeezzzzzzzzz........ This type stuff is insane.

Are Americans applying for these positions? If so, why are the school districts spending extra money to fly to the Philippines?

They shouldn’t be paying any abled-bodied person welfare dollars in Mississippi if there aren’t enough people to fill basic jobs.

How would you convert a welfare bum into a good school teacher?

I believe in the basics of supply and demand. There are plenty of Americans that can teach in our schools.
