In the wake of protests at the University of Missouri, students of color at Guilford College are rallying against perceived racism on their campus. Guilford College is in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Like their compatriots in Missouri, the protesting students have released a list of demands. If they are "not met within a week," protesters promise they will rally on campus again.
Among other things the students want, they are pushing the college to have professors, administrators, and staff to admit they are racist, that no black people should be in any marketing campaigns for the time being, and an investigation into Yik Yak, a smart phone app similar to a localized online bulletin board.
"We want black bodies out of marketing campaigns until Guilford addresses its diversity issues," reads the first demand. They continue later, "We demand a plan for the end of exploitation of black male athletes. The college must not be able to profit off of black bodies while putting minimal effort into the education and retention of those same students," it continues.
The group then writes, "We demand that school administrators, professors, staff, and student leaders acknowledge their racism, be it overt covert or passive." They then demand "that faculty and staff [be] protected and able to voice solidarity with students and/or frustration with administration."
They also demand Yik Yak be investigated: "We demand an investigation to the extent of the school’s ability into [sic] hateful Yik Yak posts and comments. Should these posts and comments turn overtly violent, the students demand the School takes it to the proper authorities and promise the safety of black students on campus. These should be treated no differently from other anonymous hate crimes."
How about we settle this by totally segregating the races.
Blacks-only colleges with only black staff and all others with no black staff.
Will that make them happy?

Guilford is a rich kids school.
When you raise people on free stuff, they are not grateful, they feel they are deserving of more. It is never enough.
I wish all the colleges and universities would just ignore these fools. No response whatsoever, and the if the “students” disrupt any offices or other campus areas, have them arrested for disorderly conduct, assault or whatever charge applies. If any major crimes are committed, expel the perpetrators and get tuition from the next persons in line who want to be admitted to the school.
Good point....and even in the big time, only a small handful of colleges turn a profit over all on their athletic programs (only mega state universities with massive stadia and TV markets). The exploitation crap has got to stop. The easiest thing in the world to do is NOT BECOME a college athlete.

If I was the college’s president, I’d tell them to go to class or be expelled. Of course, I’m not since I’m smarter then those overpaid babysitters (fka college presidents).

When the Union Army occupied the South in the aftermath of the collapse of the Confederacy, women could not vote. Unreconstructed rebels (all soldiers and most government officials) could not vote. Anyone with an outstanding property tax could not vote (almost all of the rest of the white population). Emancipated slaves could vote and they voted either for one another or for a carpetbagger who promised certain kickbacks. The several states of the old Confederacy controlled by these legislators were the theaters of absurd as many of the legislators were, unfortunately, completely illiterate and knew nothing beyond the particular craft that they had practiced in the Southern economy. These people did not to make demands, since they controlled the government. This Alice in Wonderland world lasted until the Federal Government returned sovereignty to the states. Unfortunately, retribution was meted out by the white who quickly seized the reigns of power.
We are about to reenact these dark days of reconstruction with some of these ludicrous demands with a result that will likely be even worse than those experienced in the post bellum period. Once again, short term political gains will prevail. But, once again, the people will have the final say and the Democrats cannot import enough voters to avoid the iceberg that looms ahead.
The college should immediately disband the football and basketball teams so that black students are no longer exploited.
Of course, that would mean the scholarships disappear also...
In many respects, we are living under Reconstruction II, except that the usurpation of the government is at the Federal Executive level and all of the states are being held hostage including those who are in complete alliance with the President of the United States. Blacks, Hispanics, and illegal immigrants believe that they are the beneficiary of this situation, but at then end, they will be cast aside when no longer useful and the entire wealth and power of the country will be in the hands of a set of tyrants who will destroy anyone who challenges their rule. The plan has been set in motion.
