Hundreds rally against Confederate sign on Mississippi flag

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Civil-rights leader Myrlie Evers-Williams, Mississippi-born rapper David Banner and a prominent South Carolina lawmaker are calling on Mississippi to remove the Confederate battle emblem from its state flag.

About 400 people took part in a change-the-flag rally Sunday outside the Mississippi Capitol. No alternative design was proposed, but rally leaders said the flag is racially divisive. Three men holding large flags with various Confederate emblems watched the rally from a distance across the Capitol lawn.

The emblem — a blue X with 13 white stars, over a red field — has been on Mississippi's flag since 1894, and voters chose to keep it in 2001. But the massacre of nine black worshippers in June at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, has renewed the debate about the public display of Confederate symbols.

The MSM ignores the thousands that rallied for the flag to remain as is.

If the removal of the Confederate flag canton from the Mississippi state flag would suddenly make all the negro protesters become engineers, doctors, truck drivers or rocket scientists I might entertain a change, but it won’t. They’d still be the same low IQ, violent, unemployed wards of the state they currently are. They’d then move on to the next excuse of a boogie man they can blame for their lack of success. Excuses are easier to make than progress.

In 1970, Myrlie Evers ran for Congress in a special election in California’s 24th District in northeastern Los Angeles County. She didn’t have much of a chance because it had previously been represented by Glen Lipscomb, a hardcore conservative Republican. She got trounced by John Rousselot, another hardcore conservative who would remain in Congress until the next decade, when the Democrats who controlled the legislature gerrymandered the district by throwing in a bunch of Democrat precincts in East LA.

“Should the American flag be removed because the Indians couldn’t fight well enough to fend us off or because Mexicans were too lazy to conquer Texas?”

There are those that would agree with this and will push it someday.

The leftist-leaning government (led by Najibullah -sp?) asked for help against rebels that wanted to overthrow it. While the Soviets had left earlier, his government survived a few years after the withdrawal - I believe he was hung in 1996.

Similar to the South Vietnamese government asking for help against rebels that wanted to overthrow it. While we left in 1973, it survived until 1975.

South Vietnam survived 2 years without us? didn’t know that.

Was it a truly democratic regime? i never really knew.

Like in the way South Korea is?

Were the South Vietnamese good fighters?

You can claim to be anything who knows

No one side started the Civil War

No one ever does

It’s a series of events

Hotheads and pride and a slew of good white Chrustians died and I lament that given how it’s gone since then

“Why give in?”

That’s the best reason to not change it.

Nikki Haley messed up to my mind in the knee jerk reaction.

Why to change it?

To recognize a legitimate grievance of fellow citizens.

Jim Crow was wrong and not only wrong, it harmed the US more than anything else in our history.

Without this Democrat big government enforcement of diminished rights of not only blacks but also whites I doubt the leftist Marxist perspectives would have been able to gain the foot hold in this country that they have.

No Jim Crow, no Obama.

There are consequences of sin.

The Democrats have used Jim Crow and reaction to Jim Crow as a racket to gain more power and move the country more left. They start Jim Crow, people react to Jim Crow by becoming more left and further support the Democrats.

It’s such a sleight of hand racket, it is quite a diabolical history that we now are feeling the brunt of worse than ever.

Ancestry.com is quite an amazing thing.

I now know for sure that I have direct forebears who fought for Mississippi, Tennessee and Illinois in the Civil War.

Before Ancestry.com all we knew was we had ancestors living in those places during the Civil War but didn’t know if any participated.

They can go to hell.

Amen and halellujah. I wish folks would just leave Mississippi alone, we're not bothering them. That flag isn't bothering them. Don't they have some gangsta murderers to go deal with, killing toddlers and old people, since "black lives matter"? Mississippians took a vote, we decided we wanted to keep the flag, and after that it's nobody's business but ours. The left really are a bunch of fascists. They just can't stand it until everyone knuckles under to them, on no matter how small of an issue, but they won't even admit the real issues, much less address them. If they actually fixed the real issues, they couldn't continue to use them as excuses to try to browbeat everyone else into paying for their mistakes and supporting their fake agendas.

I swear, I'm inclined to go stand on Hwy 90 with a sign about Channon Christian and Christopher Newsome and their torture/rape/murders, and how the "black power" fist is the cause for their horrific murders.

Because Theodore Dalrymple said it well-

“Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

Yes, the Knoxville murders of the young college couple out on a date who were carjacked and then unspeakably tortured, raped, and murdered. Channon lay dying within listening distance of the murderers (including a female) eating breakfast. The national media ignored the story, except for a mention when people showed up at the courthouse to show support for the families, then they tried to make the supporters look like a Klan rally. But blacks looting and destroying every time some thug gets his just desserts, that’s just “social justice”.

I really wish more people were aware of this story and the many, many more like it, not to mention the crime statistics of black-on-white violence and rape, then maybe they’d understand that it’s not a lot of innocent blacks who were just minding their business who are imprisoned in disproportionate numbers to their per capita population. There’s a real reason why so many are there, like the black “teens” who have raped and beaten or murdered elderly white women, including one who was over 100 years old. While at the same time, year after year, the rape statistics for white-on-black rape are statistically zero. But no, the “real problem” is a flag.

GOPe voted in all that crap same as libtard Dems

Great Society

1965 Immigration

Conservative GOP and Dixiecrats opposed it all but conservatives today dare not mention that

It was always so easy for Yankees to tell white southerners what to do with these huge black populations from a distance since they didn’t have them and bore no consequence from 1861 to say the 1980s

Now one goes to Detroit or Cleveland or south Chicago and sees how the north deals with blacks

Or come to the south of which all black counties and large cities are now black run or dominated and see for themselves how it’s all turned out Post Crow

It’s ugly from my perspective living it so I resist being lectured by some about it all

Jim Crow era whites did not hate black folks but they feared giving them the reins

Were they wrong to fear that?

It’s a logical question few dare ask

You really are meandering all over the place and do not make a coherent argument.

Other than maybe one of White Supremacy.

Is this your intention?

Be clear.
