The Trump Phenomenon
Canada Free Press ^ | 09/27/15 | Obie Usategui

Posted on 09/27/2015 7:54:06 AM PDT by Sean_Anthony

I would like to suggest to the rest of the candidates that, maybe, just maybe, the time is ripe for you all to start cloning whatever it is that Mr. Trump is doing right, and kid yourselves not, he is doing something right

As much as many of us may have missed it, there is, as far as I am concerned, a true nonpareil phenomenon taking place right before our very eyes in this running for the republican presidential candidacy deal, and I am not referring specifically to the uniquely crowded field of contenders, now in the hunt for the nomination. That too, of course. With 2 down and 15 to go, as of this date, I venture to say, this has to be one of the most contested races in politics as of late, bar none. The fact that we have such a hefty fraternity of candidates running is truly a blessing in disguise for the GOP party.

But, moreover, more so than the quantity itself, the true blessing, unlike our democratic opponents, comes by way of the self-evident human capital now participating in the race; the unabated excellence found in the people that are running for the post– a true assemblage of smart, talented, skilled, and professional men and women, who have come together to let the world decide who will be the next candidate to represent the republican caucus in the 2016 presidential elections, which brings me to today’s central theme of dissertation -‘The Donald Trump Phenomenon’.

Take all the pages in a phone book, tape them to a wall, step back 50 feet, and throw a dart at the wall. Electing that person is better than what we have now.

If hackers want to get their adware/spyware out big time, lead with Trump in the title.

I doubt Trump even makes it through the first few primaries. He hates losing and if he doesn't win Iowa or NH, I think he will drop out. By the time those first states vote, my guess is Trump's shtick will be old and boring. He's a realityTV star, the masses are fickle.

On the other hand, a big factor that should give Trump supporters a reason for optimism is - Trump hasn't even really spent any of his own money yet. He's gotten as far as he has without much more than personal travel and organizational costs. The other candidates are already spending and begging for cash from donors, and Trump hardly even employs pollsters. So if he stays in the race, Donald Trump will have a lot of money to pour in if he thinks he can win.

Fortunately for all of us your opinion is based on a lack of facts and credible intellectual analysis. :-)

The Trump Phenomenon

MUCH, MUCH more than a phenomenon. For years those who are "FED UP", "PISSED OFF", or even "CONCERNED" have been ignored and belittled. Now Trump is channeling that rage.

Couple of non-subjective factors in the race that pro and anti Trump observers can both follow is his ability to maintain a moderate/conservative coalition and his ability to convince people that a managerial president is a good idea.

His immigration reforms were an example of the former, he’ll has to do it on several more issues; and the latter is needed to counter doubts on his qualifications.

Exactly, I am reminded of a possibly apocryphal quote of Lincolns in response to a complaint about Gen. Grant's drinking. "Buy the rest of my generals a case of whatever he is drinking".
Lincoln in response to complaints about the Body count, "I can't spare him, he fights".

Ah, you have a problem there. My opinion is based on nothing but logic, facts and history.

I point out the good and the bad (mostly bad with Trump) and am never invested in any politician the way so many are with Palin, Cain, Trump, etc. Cruz is my preferred candidate and I have no trouble at this time saying he is struggling. Cruz won the value voters straw poll, but unlike Trump supporters I don't make claims that a poll I happen to like means anything tremendously significant.

Most, not all, but most of my predictions are fairly accurate - especially the big ones such as knowing Palin wasn't running in 2012, pointing out repeatedly that Cain wasn't a serious presidential contender, knowing the birther stuff was never going to go anywhere, mocking the whole "unskewed polls" nonsense and the idea that Romney was actually winning the last general election if only the polls weren't "skewed", etc.

I am objective as I can be considering we all have biases. If you read my previous post about Trump there was both good and bad.

Agree, and for the record I totally agree with Trump's immigration reform plan. It is also heartening that he went to Senator Sessions for advice on crafting it. Who a politician goes to for recommendations is very important when considering a nominee.

On the other hand Trump said in 2012 that Romney was too TOUGH on illegal immigration and had therefore lost the Latino vote. It's great that Trump is all on board with doing something about illegals now, but he flip flops constantly and just a couple years ago took just the opposite view. It's amusing that Trumpsters ignore Trumps ever "evolving" policy positions, but would never cut the same slack to any other candidate. That tells me Trump support is far more about the man than it is about particular policies, and this particular man has no record of being a conservative and is not grounded in conservative thought.

“Cruz won the value voters straw poll”

Rand Paul won the CPAC straw poll. These straw polls are meaningless.

If you were informed and objective that would be your statement. Cruz is polling overall about 4-5 points above Paul at this point. So its not a poll I like its all the polls in the country that indicate your intellectual analysis is challenged at best.

You would be more accurate to just limit your posts to “I don’t like Trump and I want someone else for President” That’s an opinion and does not require you to back it up with facts. :-)

I automatically distrust any screed that uses the words “the masses”; a phrase beloved by communists everywhere, starting with Karl Marx. Once upon a time not so long ago, the phrase was despised by everyone everywhere in the world who believed in freedom, human rights, property rights, civil rights, and religious freedom. How could you use that loathsome phrase? We are people, we are citizens, we are individuals. You, on the other hand, appear to be a fellow traveler seeking a writing gig for the Daily Worker.

The new Zogby poll shows Texas Senator Ted Cruz at 5 percent, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and Ohio Governor John Kasich all at 4 percent. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie stands at 3 percent.

I correct myself, Cruz is running 1% above Rand Paul. Trump is losing badly at 33% and Ben Carson is neck and neck with Trump at 13%.

Trump is only leading Carson by 20 points. I heard Trump was so overwrought he tried to jump out of a window. I’m sure he will be dropping out any day and way before any primary. :-)

If you'd actually read my post you'd have seen that I conceded that the values voters straw poll had little meaning.

Zogby uses online polling which does not generate very accurate results. Trump is always out there claiming non scientific Drudge, Time and Newsmax polls are relevant when they are almost completely useless.

It’s funny that Trumpsters are citing Zogby considering he has long been considered a running joke “the Zogby special sauce” and was, at one time, rated the worst pollster in the business.

In the interest of accuracy, they are not "meaningless".

Instead, they are of "limited meaning". They indicate that a particular candidate is particularly strong with a particular demographic (or interest group, or geography, etc.).

I.e., they shouldn't be discounted completely. But, by the same token, they shouldn't be overestimated, either.
