A Texan at last!

Posted on 09/24/2015 6:18:50 PM PDT by uscga77

We are now here in the great state of Texas. We have left behind that state that had me shaking my head incessantly. Of course, if we want to remember what it was like in good ol' Cali, we can take a ride into Austin. Maybe not.

Welcome to Texas!!!! I’m not sure why “foreigners” on this thread keep saying you won’t be considered a Texan by Texans; THIS native Texan knows that if you all are moving here to escape liberalism, you are Texans, indeed!! :)

I moved to Texas in ‘67. Just the other day, I had a woman ask me, “Where you from?” I still haven’t shed my Kansas accent. Probably never will, but I love it in New Braunfels where I can practice my German.

Oh, when spring rolls around, make sure to have a weather radio. Severe weather in Texas is serious business. Tornadoes, straight line winds, and hail to the size of softballs have all been reported in Texas. Texas is awesome. It is not, however, for the faint of heart.

After the wall is built on the border, the contractor can just start walling around Austin.

I envy you. I really do.

Don’t feel bad, I still get asked where am I from, due to my lack of Texas accent. Most assume I am from up North. I guess I hang out with my friends who are New Jersey transplants too much. As long as you are legal, welcome to Texas.

Last time I saw that string of gifs, I saved 'em on my phone. There was more of them... and so I set up my phone the next time I saw my Old Man and just had him scroll through each in order. We were both laughing pretty hard.

When people ask me where I’m from, I tell them nowhere.
To be from somewhere, you have to have left some place.

I was born in Texas and I’ve never left. At least not in principle.

Agreed.

I just think that Oklahoma gets it even more.

But there’s a whole lot of weather here as well. Except during the summer months it seems, which are just plain hot.

It’s a wonderful state. Very nice, and what’s really notable to me as a former Californian, is there is quite a large amount of land. In every direction.

Not like California, where there are limited amounts of places people can really go. Cali’s big enough, but there really aren’t a lot of places which can be built on anymore in much of the state.

Texas is in growth mode.

Bigtime.

Nice people here, as well.

Some Texans are more equal than others...and some of us are Texian’s and have bloodlines from 1731 when this was New Spain and in 1836 when Santa Anna’s tyranny had reached its peak descendents of those original colonials along the Anglos raised arms for liberty so yes some of us are more Texan than others ;-)

I had 2 or 3 others of the sequence that I had found online, but they really didn't add much to it. These 3 were the main ones.

You’re right about Grambling and Prairie View and the melanin. Been in Texas since 1985 and always had the State Fair on my bucket list so we finally went up for the weekend three years ago. Stayed north of the city in a safe area and took the train in. Didn’t realize it was UT/OU weekend or that there were so many things females could wear with cowboy boots. Here I thought it was only jeans, a plaid shirt and a cowboy hat. Silly me! We did enjoy lots of fried ‘ritas.

Just remember:
,
Only reason Texas doesn’t fall into the Gulf of Mexico, is because Oklahoma sucks...

Good for you... Lucky b@stard. In 12 more years I’ll retire and return home to Cuero, TX. In the mean time I’m stuck living in CA’s armpit. Aka...Los Angeles. I’m counting every miserable day...

The original Austinites have been moving outside the city limits for several years now. They are being driven out by the wrong kind of Californians. (not to be confused with present company on this site)
