Mystery lights in space increasing, moving south, potential sign of global warming

Strange blue lights glowing on the edge of space first appeared over polar regions in 1885 and today, sightings are becoming increasingly common, and now the phenomenon is moving into lower latitudes including Northern California.

Like the proverbial canary in the coal mine, these glowing space clouds may be a celestial siren, warning of Earth's global warming, according to some scientists.

They're called "noctilucent clouds" or NLCs, basically, clouds that glow at night. They appear mainly in northern latitudes, about 50 miles above earth as miniscule droplets of water reflect the sun on the other side of the globe.

Now, they're moving father south.

"Public interest in noctilucent clouds is definitely growing as they spread to mid-latitudes," said SpaceWeather.com's Tony Phillips, who tracks the appearances and reports from astronomers.

Geesh!!

My toaster just died! It must be global warming. Take cover Take cover protect yourselves.

Face it - everything is caused by global warming according to those who wished we agreed. As weary of hearing this mantra as I am seeing/hearing oh dark won every day ‘where ever’

So, noctilucent clouds that are normally seen only in far northern latitudes are spreading southward into warmer latitudes?

Sounds to me as if phenomena associated with cold is spreading south. By what mechanism are these clouds associated with warming?

So things that are normally seen in the north (colder) are moving south (warmer) and that is suppose to be a sign that the north is getting warmer?

Don't they have that a bit backwards?

It seems we are living in the dark ages when you have phoney “priests” saying the world will end.

Sorry did not see your question before I asked mine.

But it is a very valid question.

“Mystery lights in space increasing, moving south, potential sign of global warming”

It’s about time these mystery lights started showing up; after all, all but one or two of the global warming, uh, I mean “climate change” models have been predicting mystery lights as a sign of global warming. Oh, wait, silly me; it was only zero global warming models that predicted mystery lights as a sign of global warming. So, I suppose one must conclude that all of the global warming models were wrong, or mystery lights are not related to global warming. Take you pick.

[BTW, since there are no mystery lights in my neck of the woods, I’m feeling pretty damn smug about no global warming happening here, you know, just in case mystery lights ARE a harbinger of global warming, uh, I mean climate change. Either way, I’m thankful about the lack of mystery lights here.]

It is a very valid question, I wasn’t being critical.

The mechanism is called grant money and global warming research funds. Stop the negative vibes man. Your logic and science is affecting the scam dude.

1) they aren’t lights; they are ice particle clouds that reflect sunlight

2) they not “space clouds”; they are high stratospheric clouds

3) they are an annual summertime (north & south polar, respectively) event, that slowly expands/spreads in area to about 50 degrees latitude at their annual seasonal peak, then contracting & disappearing as summer also fades. True for each pole, in turn.

4) they are so tenuous that they can not be seen while the sun is up, but their bottoms reflect sunlight after the sun has dropped about 16 degrees below the horizon, until it has dropped far enough to put them into earth’s shadow; reverse in the A.M.

5) some years they are visible farther equatorward than others; some years their ‘season’ is longer or shorter than others.

6) they were first REPORTED in the antarctic in 1885; doesn’t mean they first appeared in 1885, as “some scientists” try to claim by implication. Sprites are a similar, analogous case: they were reported at least since the 19th Century, but “some scientists” (and science writers) claim they were first DISCOVERED in 1989, which is just when they were first photographed.

“Some scientists” (and science writers) can be tricksy little beasties, who play fast and loose with both facts and language, for fun and profit.

Life is so easy when there is only one boogeyman, global warming, to blame for everything bad or unknown.

The problem with crying wolf - crying boogeman - is if something REAL happens we would ignore it. In the meantime we might wonder if this isn't more a function of aurora borealis...
