Reminds me of an episode of the Twilight Zone titled The Masks, where an old dying rich man demands that his greedy relatives put on (ugly) masks meant to reflect their inner selves. They are shocked when they realize the masks have become permanent following the man's death. So they get his money, but have to live the rest of their lives with these ugly outward reflections of their inner selves.
