Writing in USA Today, Alexandra Samuels, USA Today's columnist for their "voices from campus" section, believes that people trying to have big lips are racist.
Specifically, Ms. Samuels is referencing the "#KylieJenner Challenge," in which teenagers suck on shot glasses so that their lips are "plump and pouty" like Kylie Jenner's, who is on the reality TV show "Keeping Up With The Kardashians."
While Ms. Samuels warns teens that the practice is dangerous, as it has led to bruises and some disfiguration, the main point of Ms. Samuels's piece is that trying to create big lips is racist.
The article, titled "The #KylieJennerChallenge is dangerous and racist," tries to explain to readers how big lips are racist.
"These teenagers participating in the challenge aren’t aware of the history associated with black people and big lips," Ms. Samuels writes. "White Americans in the nineteenth century used blackface, along with other racist black stereotypes, as a form of entertainment."
...The problem, as Ms. Samuels sees it, is that big lips have always been considered "ugly" until "until Jenner and other white girls came around and made them popular."
Samuels explains, "My biggest in concern is that Kylie is hailed for her big lips and for making them trendy whereas black people have been historically ridiculed for them."

Seems to me that you straightening your hair is racist to my people- who have naturally straight hair.

When “most” people say they like (big butts) they don't mean WIDE butts (like Moochelle Obama’s or Hitlery’s), they mean they like perky round bubble butts like a female gymnast, aerobics instructor, or someone into cross-fit would have.
In other words, what they are really saying is... they don't like FLAT butts.
now about this lips issue.
It's really almost the thing thing, when “most” people say they like (big lips) they don't mean uniformly giant wide softish pillow like lips highly associated with people from sub Saharan Africa. They are saying they like plump “perky” lips that are small on the sides (and usually not wide) but that enlarge greatly as you approach the mid point. This gives the lips sort of constant puckered look like is really highlighted with bright lipstick. This is exactly the kind of lips Kylie Jenner has (that she also creatively enhances with careful application of her lipstick)
When I think of big lips, I don’t think of black girls.
My mental image is of Brigitte Bardot.
