It is true that legal immigrants are not a random sample of the population, but they still demonstrate that they can be successful here despite race. In terms of educational and economic performance, they are still able to outperform legal immigrants from other cultures, such as Mexico (who are similarly not a random sample). So it is not race or racism that is the real problem for the black underclass.

In fact, the argument could be made that it is an advantage to be black in the USA, all other things being equal. All my adult life, there has been widespread official discrimination in favor of blacks in the USA. Affirmative action, preferences, quotas, etc.

Latino Americans – or Hispanics – occupy a stigmatized status in America alongside blacks. For some, that is cause for activism, social change, lobbying for legislative action, or preservation of their ethnic heritage. For others, it is a reason to deny their own heritage and abandon their genetic makeup. Sadly, the number of folks who choose the latter option seems to be growing.

"Hispanic" and "Latino" are not racial or ethnic designations. Spaniards are as "white" as any other European, and a substantial proportion of the population (particularly the upper and middle classes) of most Latin American countries are mostly if not entirely of European ancestry.

When the La Raza and Aztlan agitators use the word "Hispanic" or "Latino" in terms of racial identity, what they really mean is Mestizo or Indio, i.e. a Spanish (or Spanglish) speaker of mostly American Indian ancestry.
