The U.S. government suppressed information about chemical weapons it found in Iraq, and several servicemembers were injured by their exposure to those weapons, The New York Times is reporting.
In an article published late Tuesday, the newspaper says it found 17 American servicemembers and seven Iraqi police officers who were exposed to mustard or nerve agents after 2003. They were reportedly given inadequate care and told not to talk about what happened.
"From 2004 to 2011, American and American-trained Iraqi troops repeatedly encountered, and on at least six occasions were wounded by, chemical weapons remaining from years earlier in Saddam Hussein's rule.
"In all, American troops secretly reported finding roughly 5,000 chemical warheads, shells or aviation bombs, according to interviews with dozens of participants, Iraqi and American officials, and heavily redacted intelligence documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

Tell me again what the Bush Admin wouldn’t defend itself against the ridiculous ‘no WMDs’ charge???
Question is: Why was this hidden?
That makes absolutely no SENSE to me. Absolutely no sense.
Maybe Bush and his cabinet just figured the left is going to hate them anyways. Maybe they didn’t care. Or maybe, just maybe.....the fix was always in. Money being passed between hands. It’s our turn now boys. You’ll get your turn in 2016! Then us again in 2024! Keep it fair, keep it balanced. Keep them divided and we all win. The ultimate ponzi scheme.
I remember reading about this at the time, though it certainly wasn’t followed up on.
I’m trying to answer that question as well.
Maybe if I ever happen to run into Bush I will ask him.
Well, there’s a simple explanation: keeping the focus on WMDs kept people from being concerned about things like the Patriot Act and the budget.
Things take on a different light if you consider “Democrat” and “Republican” to be facades in a play by the political elite.
I believe the Bush admin was concerned that confirmation of stray chemical weapons in Iraq would draw jihadists and terrorists from around the middle east, like a moth to a flame....i.e. a certain weapons stockpile in Benghazi.
So the Bush admin just ‘took it’ and put the nation’s (and world’s) security above politics.
Well, maybe because the GOPe wanted a ‘rat president to destroy the country and hatred of Bush would do just that,
and Bush was in on it?
No, it doesn’t make any sense.
Finally, CNN is getting caught up with the times. Over ten years late. The real question to ask, is why didn’t Bush ever offer a defense to the constant claims of left that there were no WMDs in Iraq.
But ... there WERE no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Michael Moore, Chris Matthews, and John Kerry all said so. And if you can’t believe a nearsighted hippo, a latent homosexual buttlick newshead, and a horse-faced no-talent gigolo, who CAN you believe?
Tell you what though...with all of his other faults, Kerry must be one heck of a gigolo...
So the Bush admin just took it and put the nations (and worlds) security above politics.
I believe you are correct, and I hope everyone reading this thread sees your reply.
The Bush Admin was not the problem. AP and Reuters noted that 550 tons of yellow cake was found shortly after we entered Iraq, but our soldiers sat on it for at least 3 or 4 yrs, as it was close to Iran border...until a Canada company bought it.
Most people read the story on Canada Free Press and there have been several threads on FR, just don’t expect the Media to embarrass themselves by stating the one thing they pounced on for years against President Bush for the War lies....not going to happen.
Or that those weapons were originally supplied or Iraq was taught how to build them by the U.S. during the Iraq/Iran war!

My guess and I bet I am on the money, they didn't want the insurgents to have any intel on possible weapons caches hidden in Iraq. The media has loose lips and would give out too much info.
Two words.
Karl.
Rove.
The existence of the devices was never really a secret. Saddam’s people knew about them and where they were. With the passing of time If the Americans and/or people of Iraq didn’t find them, the devices would eventually find the people who inherited the land that hid them.
