No political summit involving people who at least claim that they want to run for President would be complete without an appearance by Donald Trump. Ill give the man one thing he knows how to put on a show, and Im not just talking about Celebrity Apprentice. After initially coming out and saying that he would have demolished Barack Obama if hes stayed with the race the last time he ran, The Donald knew just what sort of red meat to throw to the crowd.
Trump told that crowd that if he runs in 2016, his first order of business will be to build a fence along the southern border.
We have to build a fence, and its gotta be a beauty, Trump said. And who can build better than me? He continued, If I run, and if I win, I would certainly start by building a very, very powerful fence.
Who wouldnt love to see a really nice fence on the Mexican border? And Trump builds a lot of things, so its not a stretch to think that he could envision a way to build one. But in terms of how serious he actually is, it all comes down to the art of the deal.
Trumps political pronouncements and attempts to be taken seriously have become something of a joke among the political and media establishment, but he remains a beloved figure among the grassroots for his lack of inhibition and dry sense of humor.
Ive done so many deals, almost all of them have been tremendously successful, he reminded the crowd. Youll see that when I file my statements. Youll be very proud of me. Obama, what did he do? He did no deal. What deal did he do? A house. And if you did that deal, youd be in jail.
There was a time when I might have almost taken Trump seriously about a run for the presidency, but the expiration date on that one expired a long time ago. Even in his first run there was very little indication that he was seriously interested in the job. Thats kind of a shame, because he actually does quite well on the debate stage. But for all his bluster, Ive come to view Trumps activities pretty much in the same category as Michael Bloombergs. They are both in high dollar business ventures, and having people think that you might be running for president is very good for business indeed. (I could include Rudy Giuliani in that category, but I do think he honestly believed he had a shot at it in the past.)
The Donald has made a variety of excuses as to why he didnt seriously pursue a run last time. These primarily revolved around the fact that he was committed to doing more series of his television show and his ongoing engagements for a golf course and resort. These are what you find more important than becoming leader of the free world and solving the problems besetting the nation? Hes got enough money to mitigate any contract disputes and his daughter could see that the golf course was finished on schedule. Im sorry, but this is a show, and its strictly for suckers. If I wind up being wrong, Ill happily apologize, but Donald Trump is not running for President in any serious fashion and he knows it. This is all for the cameras and Donald is at his best with a spotlight pointed at him.
How would his investments influence his decisions? Would he be able to watch the stock trading from the situation room?
Its not that I think The Donald wouldln’t be a pretty decent Prez because he actually would. He would not give a rat’s bazoo about getting re-elected. In fact he said he didn’t know if he could take the step down from his house to the Whitehouse which is a dump compared to where he lives now. But I doubt Trump would give up the great life he has to live in a fishbowl and get trashed everyday by the media to be President.
Mr. Hot Air loves to hear himself talk.
If I could believe that promise he would get my vote.
Do those things and illegal aliens will deport themselves and pay for the trip.
Until those things are done there will be no discussion about any other "immigration" topic.
Trump is as likely running for president as Sarah is.
We have to build a fence, and its gotta be a beauty,
No Fence will ever be built on the Southern Border, Guaranteed!
You Can Not have a War on Drugs without Drugs.
pretty good, and add mandatory prison time (45da.)/ea. wetback...better.
LMBO!
HAHA, The media will follow Trump again.
Suckers never learn
I listened to his speech, it was a pretty speech, filled with self-aggrandizing references, but a pretty speech.
I can see why the weak minded can fall under his spell, but he’s as serious a candidate as you know who.
He even got a covert plug in for his reality show.
Don can do anything, anything.
He once played on WWFW (Wrestling) TV as a owner.
Everything is easy for Don.
Sounds great, but being a businessman, what is Trump’s relationship with the Chamber of Commerce? It is the CoC which is the driving force on illegals and visas for cheap labor.
That’s fine, I don’t have a problem with going beyond those measures, for the most part. My stand now is to accept no less than that.
trump/palin ‘16...
I think Trump could build a great wall—to rival the Atlantic Wall of Hitler’s! I think he should be tapped by the next GOP president as the Border Czar—with his own army—The Border guard—to build the wall and man it with troops. It should be an air tight wall with only a few exits anhd entry points. Trap the illegals on our side and close the border for all Americans to stop the druges.
Will it double as a 5-star hotel?
I'm guessing people recognize a real buffoon when they see one.
