This is an idea so dumb a government grant must have funded its development.

Someone seriously concocted this and apparently tried to market it. It would be faster to just put on and take off the sock with your hands.

Admittedly, as a young healthy guy I didn’t see it the way you all do.

Even still the whole thing seems quite unwieldy, but I have a better understanding now.

:-)

I respectfully disagree about the usefulness of the gadget shown in the thread. The gadget would probably useful for some handicapped people who would need assistance dressing anyway.

This would be very useful for my father-in-law who is now too old to reach down and put on his socks. He uses an extension grabber instead, which doesn’t hold the sock quite properly for dressing.

Don't take it for granted. There are 20 yr olds in nursing homes who need things like this. Trust me. I've learned.

A friend of mine had hip replacement surgery, and he cannot bend enough to put on socks. He would have a use for that. Fortunately he has a wife to help him.

I could have used this a couple of months ago after my abdominal surgery. Instead I went sockless until I could finally bend far enough.

I could use the sock removal tool. Just take it off and dump it into the Hazmat hamper without needing to touch it.

That's Funny!

I just got over a really bad case of bronchitis. My coughing was so bad I busted three hernia repairs that were 20 years old. Now I have to get them done again. Your comment makes me remember the pain after surgery. Socks will be low on my priorities.

Don’t laugh so soon. I recently suffered extreme disability from what turned out to be two pinched nerves in my upper spine.

It left me unable to bend over (hip hurt like hell) to put my socks on or to even pick up something on the floor. This invention would have saved me a lot of pain trying to put on my socks, or even my shoes.

If one is disabled, inventions like this take on a new meaning if they work. That is what makes America so great - new ideas to solve old problems.

Next week, a couple shots of cortisone to try to relieve excruciating and crippling pain and muscle cramps. Eventually back/spine surgery to remove bone spurs.

At least with this device, I could go outside with my socks on my way to the doctor’s office/hospital and I wouldn’t be arrested for polluting the air.

The V.A. recently issued me a device to put on compression stockings similar to the photo above.

My condolences on your upcoming major discomfort. Yeah, socks wouldn’t even be on my list in that case, except I live a bit north of you, and socks are needed pretty much from October to May.

Out of curiosity, would you have been able to sit like this to access your feet?

Compression stockings was the first thing I thought of. They were difficult for me to put on my father’s feet when he was still here with us.

I especially like the images you create: why do you make them so difficult to steal? ;)
