DC Mayor Says City "Exploring" Suing Congress Over Marijuana Legalization
Townhall.com ^ | January 4, 2015 | Christine Rousselle

Posted on 01/05/2015 12:56:37 PM PST by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

This morning on Meet the Press, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the city will "explore every option" in regards to getting Initiative 71 enforced in the city. Initiative 71, which would have permitted the legal use of marijuana for recreational purposes, was passed with overwhelming support on Election Day, yet was blocked by Congress. Bowser had previously been against legalized marijuana, but has since changed her position to align with the will of the voters of the District of Columbia.

Bowser also said that she intends on "forging a path" for increased autonomy in the District of Columbia.

Mayor Bowser makes good points. Like I've previously said, it makes very little sense that D.C. residents are unable to vote for their own laws without fear of Congress stepping in and undoing everything. If residents of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Colorado can all vote to legalize the recreational use of marijuana, D.C. should be able to as well. It will be interesting to see which route the city chooses to take to ensure that their law is on the books.

I’ll let you know how it works out. :)

If I can get off the steroids, lorazapam, opiates, sleeping pills, prescription NSAIDs, anti-fungal meds, antibiotics, and muscle relaxants, then MM will be less harmful than anything that modern medicine has done to me.

Side effects of modern medicine:

- suppressed immune system (steroids)
- increased susceptibility to some cancers
- memory loss
- drug dependency
- liver damage
- ulcers
- chronic fungal infections
- sleep deprivation
- increased sensitivity to pain
- depression
- anxiety
- bleeding disorder
- IBS
- mental impairment
- danger of accidental overdose

Side effects of marijuana

- may feel ‘stoned’ and suffer some metal impairment (no worse then the opiates) until I adjust and find the strains, dosages, and methods of ingestion that best suit me.
- ...?

That’s it.

That’s the downside. As my memory is already shot with the prescribed meds and the sleep deprivation right now, I fail to see how marijuana is worse for me.

Modern medicine has NO successful method to treat chronic pain. Doctors have admitted that ‘this is the best that we can do’. Opiate addiction is horrible right now. More people are dying from opiate overdoses than ever and most of them are taking their medications as prescribed. (Opiates suppress the respiratory system. Marijuana does NOT. Not one person has ever died from a marijuana overdose. Ever. Yet people die of overdoses from OTC medications every day.)

I have NOTHING to lose by trying medical marijuana and everything to gain. If I continue down the ‘pain patient’ path with modern medicine, this FReeper will be dead withing the next five years. I will not survive to see 50.

If MM can help me to get off all of that crap, I will live to help my granddaughter prepare her wedding.

If not, then I’ll see you on the other side.

In a month or two, I hope that I have something to report - one way or the other.

Modern medicine is killing me and I really don’t want to die.

Until two years ago, I was a drug warrior/DARE mom. It’s taken a lot to get me to this point. Until just a month ago, I had no idea that there were two different families of cannabis and NO idea that there were so many strains. I had no idea that there were strains that fought inflammation without the metal impairment or topicals that didn’t make you high at all. That there were methods of ingestion that could offer pain relief without getting you stoned. I was so ignorant about marijuana that I didn’t even know that I didn’t know.

Mental impairment is the biggest ‘side effect’ of MM and it’s one that most patients try to diminish or avoid. There are entire pages on the internet of people trying to avoid the high, but still get the medical benefits. I’m not the only one.

There are small children who take cannabis oil (without the THC) to control seizures and the medicine is remarkably effective. Better than anything that modern medicine has to offer as of yet.

You’re an intelligent FReeper. Do your homework.

Please, please watch this whole thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciQ4ErmhO7g

The research that began this project began in Israel. Israel leads the world in cannabis research. They’re getting remarkable results with alzheimer’s, seizure disorders, migraines, depression, arthritis, cancer, heart disease, Parkinson’s, ALS, and T2 diabetes.

CBD (one of those cannabinoids) seems to do the trick. But the Israeli doctors have found that a small amount of THC (not enough to get stoned) assists CBD’s ability to penetrate the cell wall so the molecule can do it’s job. There are more than 400 different cannabinoids in the plant and we barely understand a few of them.

Please just look. Read. Listen. Research. Sure you can focus on the negatives, but you’ll quickly find out that the positives outweigh those negatives by far. Because the politicians are catering to the 30% who fell for the whole Reefer Madness crap and that 30% is hurting the rest of us.

Seems to do the trick
How many times have we been told that line from stem cell research to cures for cancer.Had family members die from cancer and used the cannabis from oil to pills didn’t ease the pain as did real medicine.
When someone pimps their idea they always have a medical logic some place in it.

Which is precisely why the Constitution explictly gives the Congress ultimate dominion over the seat of the Federal Government: a federal city thats only under local control can do things that make the Federal Government miserable, either as a form of retaliation or blackmail.

I’m guessing the new DC mayor is bluffing to keep the Liberal millenials in the increasingly gentrified DC from turning on her. A suit would be a complete waste of time, resources and money given the explicit relationship, as spelled out in the Constitution, between the Congress and the District (plus 200+ years of precedentvand case law!)

Legal and Criminalized pot brings nothing but trouble.

I think we agree that the amount of trouble pot brings to and by its users is independent of its legal status. Of course, only criminalized pot brings the serious trouble of putting gigaprofits into criminal hands.

You’re an intelligent FReeper.

The marijuana cure all sage [sic] continues.

Your response disproves her quoted statement. Pain relief does not equal "cure all".

Marie, keep posting your useful information and observations - I think there are intelligent FReepers reading these threads.

Criminalization drives up the price and thus the amount of crime it takes to feed a users' habit.

Had family members die from cancer and used the cannabis from oil to pills didn’t ease the pain as did real medicine.

Different people respond differently to various medicines - that's why we have multiple medications for almost any given medical condition.

Of course not - what I'm selling is facts and logic, in which you have no interest.
