When TSA was new they x-rayed my carry on leaving Vegas and then told me My bag needed to be searched... they did not allow me to watch as the bag was taken out of my line of sight.

When I got home, I went opened up that bag to fetch the banking bag that I had my cash in... TSA saw the change in that petty cash bag on the xray and they knew exactly where to go to grab the loot. They took about $800 in poker winnings... good thing I paid off my brother for the trip with cash while still in Vegas. I tried to persue the incident through the channels TSA had, but it quickly became apparent that there was no way for me to prove it was them. I considered it a lesson learned and I will drop kick the TSA agent in the face before I allow them to search my bag without my undivided attention.

I don’t have to defend my comment, as most others would agree.

However, I was responding to his comment about ALL the commenters to the thread “..demonstrably ignorant and certainly abusive...”...because they have an opinion on how our government is treating us....

...and I’m absolutely correct my comment about his daughter continuing to work in a role under treacherous leadership in this government...given his own ignorance and obviously non-conservative position (apparently yours as well...or perhaps it’s ‘reading comprehension deficit resulting from caffeine deficiency’).

Some advice for Dick Vomer....
I am in no way excusing TSA of their uncaring behavior. That said, allow me to make a suggestion.

When I pack for an airline trip, I use extra large plastic zip-lock bags and put literally everything in them. The nice thing is that clothes folded in these bags, and then sitting on the bags and squeezing out all the air (sometimes even sucking remaining air out thru a straw inserted in just before final zipping) while zipping them, compresses the clothes making it possible to get a whole lot more in the suitcase and it keeps the clothes from wrinkling.

The plastic bags also prevent any spillage from cosmetics.... example, on one trip lid popped off shampoo bottle, but plastic bag contained the mess keeping it off my clothes.

When TSA riffles through, they can easily toss all the plastic bags back into the suitcase without a problem and no mess. They can see through the bags, this plus the compression convinces them there is nothing inside to worry about.

Four years ago at the airport in Tel Aviv, Israel, where they open and search thoroughly through every single bag while you watch, the agent complimented me on this way of packing. I mean the thoroughness of their search is amazing.... I had a big book in my case that I had purchased at a Coptic church in Cairo, the agent thumbed though every page in the book to make sure there was nothing hidden it. Yet he was confident enough of my compressed plastic bags to not open any of them.

"the first “rule” I came across was no locks allowed on luggage anymore so govt and airport personnel could paw through all my belongings"

That is just simply NOT true. I use locks that are approved by TSA. Quoting from tsa.gov website: "TSA has worked with several companies to develop locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut. These locks are available at airports and travel stores nationwide."

This lock also has a feature where it indicates to me if TSA has opened it with their special key. That way, I know to carefully check right away to make sure nothing is missing.

Of course smart packing means you NEVER carry anything in the checked bag that it would be a tragedy to lose. I carry-on a small shoulder tote that holds one change of clothes (in case checked bag is lost or stolen), toothbrush, meds and any jewelry, that sort of thing, and I NEVER allow it out of my sight. I have traveled all over the USA and to many other countries and they have all honored that..... though once at a layover/plane-change in Paris, they tried to separate me from my carry-on at the inspection, but when I politely but firmly insisted, they gave in. It got a bit heated for a moment, as the agent only spoke French and my grasp of French is limited to about 25 words. I think what finally prevailed was when I said (loud enough for other agents to hear),something to effect of "the honor of France is involved here".... and an English speaking agent jumped in and apologized and allowed me to watch as he searched my tote bag.... LOL

Couldn’t they just do the one-group-digs-ditches-while-another-group-fills-them-in thing? It’d be cheaper and wouldn’t be as invasive.

I am heading out to get coffee now, thankyouverymuch.

I don’t care where anyone sits on the political fence... you lip off about a man’s daughter like you wouldn’t be offended if someone did that about yours?

Try a couple teaspoons of the Golden Rule in your morning coffee instead of salt and curdled milk.

Don’t hide behind the defense of your daughter when making un-conservative attacks on others’ opinions about the TSA and government overreach.

Your tactics mirror Alinsky. Coffee? I think not; take a dose of reality.

I see my post offended some respondents. Good. Are all of you knowledgeable of the current threat matrix? Do you know all the capabilities and limitations of the current screening devices? Is there a possibility that the perceived draconian and invasive tactics of TSA are to address these issues? To elaborate on my critique of the commenters, obviously illiterate (what you can and can’t carry are clearly defined all over the airport and on airline sites), demonstrably ignorant (see questions above), certainly abusive (read almost any post). So when all pro-American conservatives leave the government it will get better, now that sounds a little Sal Alinsky to me.

Really?

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/convicted-tsa-officer-reveals-secrets-thefts-airports/story?id=17339513

A convicted TSA security officer says he was part of a "culture" of indifference that allowed corrupt employees to prey on passengers' luggage and personal belongings with impunity, thanks to lax oversight and tip-offs from TSA colleagues.

"It was very commonplace, very," said Pythias Brown, a former TSA officer at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey who admits he stole more than $800,000 worth of items from luggage and security checkpoints over a four-year period. "It was very convenient to steal," he said.

And, of course, this Jan 2006 study addresses TSA specifically

http://research.policyarchive.org/6021.pdf

To-wit:

This paper has argued for three basic changes in the model of airport security that has been employed in the United States since the passage of the ATSA legislation in 2001. Those changes are (1) to remove the TSA’s conflict of interest by making it the policymaker and regulator, but not the provider, of airport screening; (2) to devolve screening responsibility to the airport level, under the supervision of the TSA’s Federal Security Director in each case, and (3) to shift the paradigm from an equal-risk model to a truly risk-based model for airport security. Those changes would improve airport security in several ways. They would target more of the available resources (of people and equipment) toward those passengers who pose relatively greater risk of harm, thereby getting more bang for the buck. By making all on-airport security functions the responsibility of the airport, this approach would lead to a more integrated approach, with the FSD supervising everything. Removing EDS and ETD installations from ticket lobbies and reducing the extent of lines at passenger checkpoints would reduce large concentrations of people that could be targets for suicide bombers.
It's clear you're conflicted since you take pleasure at hurling abuse but can't take the critique. The technique is, truly, Alinsky.

To borrow a phrase,

The truth is out there...

and, if you're truly Conservative...

WAKE UP!!

It looks like I wasn’t paying attention to whom I was replying. I suppose I was the one needing more coffee.

You are correct.

However, I was not wrong in being offended, as others should be, in being attacked just for having/offering non-personal opinions about a government agency.

He chose to use his daughter as a human shield to buttress critique of his abuse. My comment, as it was written, cited HIS OWN comment about his daughter as an INSULT TO MONKEYS.

Whatever...
