Landrieu Backs Into A Buzzsaw: Attack On Cassidy Backfires Horribly [VIDEO]

In the fight of her political life, Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu took the gloves off on day 1 of the runoff election between her and Republican candidate Bill Cassidy. Fewer than 24 hours later, the attack Landrieu launched went horribly wrong.

The day after neither candidate reached the 50 percent plus 1 vote threshold, Sen. Landrieu held a press conference where she slammed her opponent as absent during the devastation from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Standing in front of a VA Medical Center construction site, Landrieu called Cassidy “wishy-washy, unreliable, undependable, not sure who he is, not sure who he was and not sure who he wants to be.

She even tweeted, “When the New Orleans #VA hospital needed to be rebuilt out of the rubble of Katrina & Rita, #WhereWasBill?” with a link to a press coverage of her news conference.

Cassidy tweeted a response to Landrieu with a link to a news story on his activities, answering: “Mary Landrieu wants to know where I was during Hurricane Katrina? Setting up a surge hospital for refugees

As I remember it, Bush called for FEMA to get ready DAYS ahead of Katrina hitting - and was ready to roll - but LANDRIEU REFUSED to let them in for days! (they couldn’t come in with the permission of the state’s governor.)

My guess was that she didn’t want Bush to get any credit for helping - both her and Ray Nagin, mayor -

At least Nagin is where he belongs now. (I hope to see MANY more get their due justice)

Delicious! Miss Mary bit off more than she can chew this time. She's gonna be in a world of hurt when the December votes are counted. The bigger they are, the harder they fall...and she's gotten awfully big.

Thanks for the ping! TGIF!

Mary Landrieu and most of her party are like crooks trying to sell TV sets with no innards.

Look, see this really great TV, people buy it until they take it home and plug it in.

You get an empty set, or maybe an empty suit!

Seeing as you are FRee Republic’s foremost authority on all things Katrina, I figured you’d enjoy the Karma. One by one, the human malefactors of that disaster are earning their due.

Nagin and Broussard in jail, MeMaw Blanco humiliated, now Landrieu about to be turned into bacon...

She had ABC News with her too. They overflew a steam shovel that was scooping dirt out of a pile trying to rebuild a levy.

She whined about that poor little steam shovel, all alone (thanks to Bush) when several dumptrucks full of dirt could be seen at the top of the new build area waiting their turn to back down and unload.

One of the most duplicitous things I’ve ever seen on TV.

“but LANDRIEU REFUSED to let them in for days! (they couldn’t come in with the permission of the state’s governor.)”

Yes, the Stafford Act is designed to keep FedGov out of the way without specific permissions from the governor of a state.

Where was she?

I was here for Katrina. She and Blanco were having news conferences out of Baton Rouge on local channel 4. At the time, we could still get local programing on TV with our generator going. There were helicoptors going over head all day long bringing national guard to new orleans, etc. and also, I am sure flying Landrieu and Blanco to the hotel set up downtown. When they had press conferences, Blanco and Landrieu would stand in front and put Vitter in the back like a step child. Anyway, they both looked like deer in headlights. Volunteers with boats were in lines along airline highway waiting for the go ahead to start getting people off roofs and out of the flooded areas. There were snipers reported so they wouldn’t let the civilians in right away. We were under martial law because looters were going through our neighborhoods. The people waiting to be evacuated on the Causeway overpass looted a local store close to me that this Vietnamese couple had and stole $150,000 worth of high grade liquor and cigarettes. They had to get a loan to restock but at lease they didn’t burn their place. They always attack Bush for not landing but there was no where SAFE to land the President of the United States. We had two shot guns loaded one for the house and one for the truck. Landrieu can’t say anything good she accomplished in Katrina because there is NOTHING she can say!

This is likely something out of Veep. Veep is hilarious. Dreyfus is very, very funny in that show.

Blanco was the governor who would not let the feds in. She was a fiasco. Landrieu just stood by Blanco with a blank stare most of the time. I don’t recall, in the beginning, one statement from Landrieu. They both were playing politics as best they could.

(Low key music playing)
[Dissolve to Mary Landrieu at event]
Landrieu:”When the New Orleans VA hospital needed to be rebuilt out of the rubble of Katrina & Rita, where was Bill?”
(Silence)
[Sharp cut to Cassidy in front of K-mart dressed in business casual]
Cassidy:(matter of factly)I was here in Baton Rouge coordinating the emergency construction of a hospital for treating the sick and injured. (Begin upkey music) Within one day we turned an abandoned store into a working hospital and helped thousands who needed immediate help. When people needed help, I helped them. Well right now, Louisiana needs help and that’s why I’m here.

I was in Covington. Had no time for TV. I vaguely recall Vitter on the radio. Don’t recall Landrieu at all. Nagin was AWOL until he called on to WWL with a rambling desperate sounding plea for help. I do recall Monday the talking heads were saying “we dodged a bullet” along with Blanco congratulating everyone for how well they handled everything.

I don’t recall anything in politics that has ever, before or since, made me as angry.

There was one path to the end of the levy where the steam shovel was working. There were dumptrucks clearly visible, in the frame, waiting to back down to unload. It was an engineering constraint, not a money or political one, and anybody who knew ANYTHING about engineering could see it.

And the nasty not so little .... got away with saying what she did.

Now I recall all the hundreds of school busses all parked in rows under water that were waiting to evacuate people the only problem was, they had no one to drive them! No leaders - no comfort. I don’t know who Blanco was congratulating that Monday because there was no one here except the national guard. And, I must say, those young men were the best! We had water, ice and MREs as soon as the water went down.
